A frustrating third…
Well it was a case of rinse-and-repeat yesterday, only this time with our $19 outsider in Tantrums…
She was out so slowly you would have thought she was in the next race, and was still at the back on the last bend, seemingly going nowhere, but then spotted a gap – still ten lengths away – and produced a huge burst to get up to third, just two half-lengths from the winner, paying a juicy $6.34 the place. Tri paid almost $2K, imagine what it would have been if she’d got up! Still, a decent return for our 3 units ew, and a next-time flag to boot!

Eight from the midweeks, with a couple of winners in waiting…
Eight for the midweeks…
INFERNAPE
Timaru, 2
She was spruiked up two back when bolting home for third in a twelve horse field, and marked as next-timer. Up to 1400m three weeks ago, she repeated the dose from dead last of fourteen to run third. Now steps up to the mile, Jasmine sticks, and if she can get this filly a bit close in the run, she’s a massive chance of breaking maiden status here today. $5 in an open field, we’re all over her!

VINDICATOR
Timaru, 4
Went it the book Jan last year when held up under an ordinary ride and won for us two later before a couple of breaks. Resumed last month with a couple of tidy rides, not far off the winners, and should be fitter today for those runs. More suited back on top of the ground, Leah Hemi jumps on, and rates a decent EW shot in this open betting race at $7.50.

BRANCASTER BOMBER
Timaru, 6
Getting plenty of racing in lately, this the third in 20 days and backs up quickly from Saturday, where he dropped out late. Back to the 1200m suits, he’ll sit somewhere near the pace, is another who’ll appreciate the firmer ground and Tina sticks. Another very open race, he’s currently $5 co-fav, must go in all bets.

CHICO SONADO
Geelong, 6
Noted on debut March last year with a gritty, all the way win at Sandown, then ran last here three weeks later, weakening late after trying to lead again. Went to the paddock for 230 days, and reappeared just once in November, again running last before another spell. Resumed at Pak 20 days ago after 134 days away, and ran sixth. Obviously has talent but also had some issues you’d think… Generally somewhere near the pace, Mott jumps back on, will be fitter for that run, and not hopeless at $19.

JOLTIN’ JOE
Geelong, 7
Perennial backmarker who does possess a decent finish in him, but doesn’t always produce it. Won from the back at the Valley late last year – not an easy task over 1200m there – two of his three runs this prep have shown some promise, but that old bugbear, slow out to gates in a 1200, restricts his winning chances time and again. $15 on offer, we’ll try him again…

COOL ENCOUNTER
Ipswich, 5
With his potential good finish, and two good runs to start this prep, we rather liked him at Doomben three weeks ago, especially up to the mile, but he faded late. He likes it soft, but is 2:0 on heavy, so not sure how he handles this today. $4.60 second fav in a small field.

PLAINLY SPOKEN
Pinjarra, 3
Keeping us waiting for that first win, today would be good at $126! Drawn well but will need to jump well to take advantage…

MISS INTENTION
Pinjarra, 6
Keeps popping up without winning many, the step up to the 2300m should suit. Good stats this class, ground and jockey, rates an EW shot at $7 in another open field.
