Nice second…
Ultimate Man dropped out last as expected and rattled home along the rail to run second at $3.20.

Caught the eye initially in early December with a nice second after being well-supported, earning a next-time tag, when he ran a good third. Repaid us in January with two good wins before heading to the paddock. Resumes today after 7 months, handles the wet, has won first up and loves the distance. Has won at this grade and has warmed up with a couple of trials. At $14, she’s today’s sleeper…

Fancied him 6 days ago, but the curse of the backmarker struck again, he was actually a bit closer in the run but the apprentice was scrubbing the ears off him with 500m to go, and while he responded, the eventual winner just skipped clear leaving our lad in a fast-finishing second at $1.70. Back up to the BM64, but the rise to 2400m should suit this fast-finisher, and again, if he’s ridden not too far back, he could eat these up late. $8 looks value…

His two runs this prep have produced an eighth and a ninth, but not far off the winner, at Open grade, so the drop to this grade appeals. Won a recent trial under J Kah, and presents as $4.40/$1.80 fav here. Ready to win.

Nine runs in the frame in his last 13, and resumes today under J Collett (1/1 onboard) after winning a recent trial. Won twice from four first-up runs, and has run well in higher grade than this. First time on track but chance at $12.

Resumed 13 days ago after 4 months, had trialled up and ran fav without threatening. Pikey sticks though, but she steps up to the 1300m, so will need to be ridden patiently. Presume they know what they’re doing, so back her EW as a $7.50 shot.

Backmarker who has finished well in recent runs, so the step up to 1650m can only help and where he has form. No form on track but can feature here at $16.
