Two places from four, and a next-timer in the book…

A second and a third from our four yesterday, with Electric Evie (5 units ew, $2.50) powering home well, and though she wasn’t catching the winner, the run suggested a next-time tag was earned…

Cosmic Rhapsody (5 units ew) had done little recently, but his T&D stats suggested he was in this and he ran a bold third, only fading out of it late, paying $2.20.

Five for the midweek scramble, one fav and four at bigger odds!

Five for the midweeks…

Vesper Lynd

Ipswich R1

Noted on debut her in September, well supported and jumped only fairly from the inside draw which made it tough over the 800m dash. She stuck to her guns though, running a close fifth without a lot of room. We’ve been looking forward to seeing her again, and she resumes here after a 238 day break having won a trial three weeks back under Mark Du Plessis, and he sticks today, the extra 300m looks as if it’ll suit and she draws the ace gate again. If she jumps well, she’ll be hard to catch, EW at $6 looks value…

Tara Jasmine

Ipswich R5

She’s hard to catch, but her run for third here 11 days ago gives her a squeak in this at $26. Generally gets back but does possess a good finish, suggesting the rise to 1690m today will suit. Has run in higher grades than this, saves her best for Ipswich (4:1-2) and goes well on the firmer ground. Watch for her late!

Cool Lad, Setteveli

Warwick Farm R7

D-Day of sorts for our mate’s horse in Setteveli, early form has leeched away somewhat, had some issues which were resolved, and they moved him from Moroney to Snowden, and while he does possess a very good turn of foot, he’s not shown it in recent runs, so it’s a leap of faith here at $19.

Cool Lad has been finishing off his races quite well from his usual rearward race pattern in two races this prep, where he has little in the way of first or second-up form. Fitter now and Zac Lloyd sticks, so we’re saying he’s an EW shot at $41.

BET: Both 3 units ew, if they get involved in the exotics it’ll be monumental!

Protege

Belmont R7

Noted on debut in August 22 with a brilliant win here before failing two weeks later and leading to the paddock. Resumed after 410 days with close finishes in two runs in Oct/Nov last year, then put away again. Resumed in April with a fifth, then a second 14 days ago at Ascot over 1400m when trying to lead all the way but just nicked late. Holly sticks, drops to 1300m, overdue another win, $3.80 fav.
