Couple of roughies turn into next-timers…
Two big odds tips yesterday, and both performed rather well considering, flashing home in good style which bodes well for both next time out…
Focus (5 units ew) was an $11 shot, and it was always going to be tough for him to get past the two above him in the market, but he’s been solid this prep and ran a nice third at $2.20, there’s a win in him soon we feel. We tipped the quinella in this too, it also paid $2.20 for our 10 unit investment…
At Benalla, Phorcys was around the $20 mark, he’s a noted late finisher and we’d hoped he’d be a touch handier over the longer 2100m, but he dropped out to second last and steamed home when it was all but over, running less than two lengths from the winner in fifth. Another next-timer, and he’ll be at good odds too, so watch this space…
Three today as we hit the midweeks, with two favs we are very keen on, worth backing and multi-ing…
Two hotpots and a roughie…
SAULOK
Ascot, 7
Never headed on debut in September when bolting at Belmont before heading to the paddock. Tried to repeat on resuming a month ago but ran out of steam late. We thought they’d run him a little more conservatively over the slightly longer distance 14 days ago in a big field, and that’s what they did, and he was only beaten by a random $25 shot after drifting in the betting. That was his first shot up to the 1400m, and we’re picking they won’t catch him today as $3 fav. Get onboard…
BET: 10 unit win
YOSEMITE FALLS, THE AWESOME SON
Sandown, 5
YF noted with a gritty win early last month at Seymour, and she followed that up with a close fifth up in grade at Caulfield. Back to BM64 today and back to the mile, they’ll be flat-out to catch this front-running filly today as $2.40 fav, Bates sticks, we’ll be anchoring him in the first leg of the qadi…
TAS resumes from a six month break, has placed one first up, but his last three races were in maiden hurdles… Won a trial last week, but hard to see him making an impact in this as $41 outsider in this small field…
BET: YF 10 unit win, TAS exotics only…
