Perennial frontrunner who’s struggling to finish off his races this prep. Has the talent, not sure the heavy track suited in his past two races, so the firm track today is a plus (7:3-1) as is the addition of the in-form Jaylah Kennedy (4:2-1), so that makes him the sleeper in this as the $21 outsider. Another to keep safe!

Matawai is a former Kiwi filly, noted winning on debut at Taupo in September before heading instantly off to Aus to run in a G2 at Caulfield in October. Resumed from the 215 day break in May to run the talented Baraqiel to 1.8 lengths before a close sixth in a BM70 in June. Has first-up form (2:1-1), back in grade and B Shinn back up top makes her a worthy $3.10 fav in this big field.
