The vagaries of the punt!
Our one placing yesterday Social Conscience, a nailed-on EW bet so we thought, duly ran third at $2.00 to get us our money, only for some clown to get late-scratched at the gate, reducing the field to seven and scuppering our third place dividend…
Six from the book for the midweeker, and some roughies on show…
Midweek Six of the Best… roughies, that is…
Little Joe, Double Take
Cambridge Synthetic R5
LJ finished last prep with a couple of ordinary runs, obviously an issue as previous form had been sound. Has run well here and resumes after a 222 days spell with Billy Pinn onboard. No trials, but if he’s anything like, he’s a nice EW chance at $17.
DT is ex-HK and was building towards a win with a third and two seconds last prep and resumes today with one less day off than LJ. Backmarker who is very capable of arriving late on the scene, but the 1300m really isn’t his thing, so suspect he’s using this as a warm-up, but one for later over longer distances methinks… $19 on offer in an open betting race.
BET: Only 2 units ew both these, may add some exotic spice…
More Than Words
Riccarton Park Synthetic R5
A little hard to catch but talented on her day. Super T&Ds here, has been going round at big odds recently, not too far off without threatening but she has talent and gets the Mudman up today. $7 in a small field, you could get EW odds on TAB…

Infringement
Ballarat R4
Backing up after 6 days, an interesting runner, former Kiwi who raced just five times over here, well-supported each time, noted on his last run at Tauranga in October getting way to far back, tailed off last and game home with a wet sail to run a close second. Popped up in Aus in March after a 165 day spell, and though needing the run, ran a decent second. Expected him to push on from there next time out but suspect the mile was too much, so we rather fancied him last week at Geelong over the 1400m, but he got way too far back and finished on OK but pushes back up to the mile here today and gets D Stackhouse up top. Fav looks hard to beat, but our lad can run a place, or even win at $4.50.
BET: 7 unit win
Chico Sonado
Ballarat R5
Frontrunner who got out to 2000m 17 days ago for the first time, and as usual got to the front and tried to run ‘em off their feet, only fading late for fifth, but he’ll be ready for his second run at the distance, and once more D Stackhouse is up for us, and we’re picking they’ll ride him a touch more conservatively to save him up for the final 200m. $8.50 on offer and a good EW punt in an open race.

Teentee
Ballarat R8
Noted with a huge finish last August for third, then ran second and first as anticipated before a seventh at the Bool then a trip to the paddock. Resumed after 162 days at Geelong in April for an even seventh once again, this looks a touch short as he warms up into this prep, $81 shot…
