Wanjiru was the one to watch…

It’s a funny old game this horseracing…

Yesterday, we had four from the book, three of them we considered to be very much live chances, the other a horse very much out of form, running four eighth placing and a last of ten in his last five runs.

And that was the one that got us home, Wanjiru (3 units ew), returning to the 1980m and back on his fav track at Tatura and fav jockey onboard. Backed in from $23, Laura Lafferty parked him midfield, moved him up on the bend, and he was never in doubt as he strode home at $13/$3.50, and helped us to a share of the trifecta ($2600 in Aussie, $10K+ over here!) and another place in the Hall of Fame!!

A Magnificent Midweek Seven today, let’s have a look!

Midweek’s Magnificent Seven…

Getafix

Randwick-Kensington R7

Getafix needed the resuming run at Rosehill in July, but liked the way he stuck to his guns under McEvoy. Reappeared there 25 days ago but faded late after being prominent, so a bit of a surprise they’re trying him up in distance here, $9 shot.

Rose Noir

Doomben R6

And here’s our insider, and trainer Tony Gollan scratched her from last Saturday to run here over a shorter track and a better draw, and she should be up near the pace this time under Angela Jones. Ready to win, training well and looking good, just needs managing in the run, $7.50 on offer…

Royal Fox

Sale R6

Ah, we love this fella, doesn’t matter how far back he settles, you know he’ll be dropping in late, just left it a length too late 12 days ago at Pak. Jake Noonan knows him well, steps up in grade here but that won’t stop him finishing fast, watch for him late on, $13 is nice…

Peace Treaty

Sale R7

Won 3 of her first 4 and pretty impressive in doing so, before three runs for midfield finishes, but not far off the winner. Resumed after a four month break 20 days ago without trialling, we thought the 1000m might be a touch sharp for her, and so it proved, but it was a tidy third and earned her a next-time tag. She’s a talented mare, D Lane hops on (1:1), up to the 1206m, fitter, looks hard to beat if she can stave off this resuming fav…

BET: 10 unit win

Cornelian Bay

Devonport Synthetic R5

Resuming from a 73 day break, T&Ds strong obviously and has good first up credentials, $4.20 in an open betting event.

BET: 6 unit win

Winchester Rifle

Devonport Synthetic R7

Struggling to make an impact this prep, needs to lift, and can. $26 here.

BET: 3 units ew

Sir Simon

Devonport Synthetic R9

He’s struck some goof form, winning his last two, frontrunner who’ll be hard to hold out, just needs to last the extended 1880m, $2.50 fav.

BET: 10 unit win
