A winner and a second…
Off to a great start with World Charmer (5 units ew) who strode away in the straight to continue her recent excellent return to form, paying $5.20/$1.69.
Seiryu (5 units ew) followed up, finally translating her trial form to raceday with a nice second at $2.60.
After World Charmer’s dominant win, we had high hopes for Highground, who finished 3 lengths behind WC in her previous race, but despite putting himself in a decent position in the run, was unable to see out the trip.
Little Max, back from a 399 day lay-off, just found it a bit too much, but doubtless he’ll take benefit from that, and we’ll keep an eye on him going forward…
Surprisingly few today from the book, just the five, with some big odds runners…
Five from the midweeks…
JOLTIN’ JOE, RED HAWK
Sale, 7
Couple of $7 shots for us here…
JJ has won at good odds for us previously and wasn’t that far away won the straight at Flem 17 days ago. Back in grade, this will suit him better, good stats and fav jockey onboard, he’ll be dropping in late.
RH was noted bolting in on debut, and while he’d done little to build on that since, his runs this prep have seen him back to form and the win on pace two back was good to watch before a close fourth at this level. Gets Beau up top and rates a chance in this.
BET: Can back both 5 units ew, exotics…
COOL LAD
Warwick Farm, 7
Stepped up to this grade 14 days ago at Rosehill, finishing fast for a close second for us at SP $21 under McEvoy. He sticks for this and is a sleeper at $17.
BET: 5 units ew
EYE PEA OH
Warwick Farm, 8
Races close to the speed and resumes today from a 5 month layoff. Rarely far away apart from her last run last prep, and has won first-up. Has trialled twice, and while she may well need the run, is worth a small EW wager at $31.
BET: 3 units ew
HANDSHAKE
Mount Gambier, 4
Noted bolting home late August to win with something in hand before moving up to BM64 for two close seconds. Moves on to a BM68 here, so they are obviously very confident in his chances and we’re picking he’ll roll over these late as $2.25 fav in what looks like a race in two.
BET: 10 unit win, 10 unit quinella with Morpurgo
