Go fourth…
A lone fourth from ex-Kiwi Tikemyson was the sole return from yesterday, let’s move onto the midweeks where we have eight from the book, let’s have a look…
Eight for the midweeks…
She Said, I Am The Empire
Sandown R2
3:45pm
Small but quality field for this one, and our two both have claims…
She Said noted flying home three weeks ago from near-last with 200m to go and won by a length. Up in grade and up in distance, looks sure to there at the finish, $6 on offer.
IATE has been racing well in this grade, most recently close up behind this fav, who’ll be hard to beat based on recent runs. $8 on offer.
BET: Tough call, but both 3 units ew, put in exotics with fav.
Mr Vivaci
Sandown R5
5:30pm
Two good runs early this prep before getting blown away (as they all were) by the impressive Mr Verse. Trainer’s looking for a bit of give in the ground, hoping to settle him midfield from the draw and unleash late over his fav distance. Jye sticks, $5.50 in a very open contest…
BET: 5 units ew
Matriarch Rose
Sandown R7
6:40pm
Bit hit and miss this prep but always a chance in the midweeks after a lot of Saturday metro racing. Capable of a decent finish, so the step up to the 1800m for the first time could be a nice indicator, and she’s 4:1-2-0 at the track, plus gets a jockey upgrade to D Bates, EW shot at $12.
BET: 4 units ew
He’ll Rip
Sandown R8
7:15pm
Been ripping our hearts out over a couple of runs in July/Aug, previous form was impressive, and he dropped back in both grade and distance on the Lakeside track three weeks ago where he produced a much-improved effort to run a close fourth. Benny Allen sticks, and we really like his chances in this open betting race as $5.50 second fav.
BET: 5 units ew
In Summer
Canterbury R4
5:20pm
Very consistent this prep, only missed the frame once in five runs. Typically gets back and unleashes late and steps back up to the 1900m here where she’s 1:1. Excellent EW bet at $6.50, more than capable of taking this out, watch for her late again…

Araletta
Ipswich R5
5:38pm
Spotted her after a trial at Pak in April last year, with trainer Peter Moody spruiking her up, rating her as a city class filly. She ran second, if a touch greenly, but we fancied more to come, and she resumed in December spell after some good jump-outs, and she duly obliged with a dominant display. Backed that up on NY Day, swooping late to win for us. Finished well for third later in the month then ran a very close seventh up in the BM70 grade in early Feb before heading to the paddock. Resumed from a 140 daybreak in late June but faded late. That did her the world of good she ran an improver’s second at Gold Coast mid-July, then won in nice style here in late July at Ipswich before a close fifth at Doomben. Jag GC back onboard (1:1), loves this distance and going (both 7:2-2-1) and won her only race here. Only goes well, $6.50 in a competitive event.

Hayai Mesu
Balaklava R7
5:45pm
She’s not shown anything for some time but interestingly jumps up to the 2200m today for only the second time, so we’ll keep her safe at $15…
