Head scratcher…
The only scratching done yesterday was by me, and it was my head!
We did require our one-hit wonder Cosmic Rhapsody to jump well, which he did, but then quickly settled towards the rear of the field, and he was nowhere near in contention at the final bend, but still got up for second when flying home…
Maybe he just doesn’t have that early whizz, so common sense says they should be pushing him out over further, certainly another 200m and he’d have saluted… We’ll keep you in the loop…
Nine for the midweeks, let’s dive in!!
Midweek nine…
Double Take
Cambridge Synthetic R2
DT is ex-HK and was building towards a win with a third and two seconds last prep. Resumed a month ago over a far too short 1300m and was better suited over the mile at Ruakaka 10 days ago. Good record on the AWT, and he will get better over longer but he looks a solid EW bet at $7 in this.
BET: 5 units ew
FOOTNOTE: Was prominent in the run until the final bend where he weakened badly. Will need further, but we were confident of him finishing in the frame with his good record on the AWT, but not this time…
Nefertari
Warwick Farm R2
Got up for us 22 days ago to break maidens, obviously jumps in grade here but should be thereabouts. Collett sticks, has form on soft so hopefully can handle the heavy. $11 on offer.
BET: 4 units ew
Sweysive, Cool Lad
Warwick Farm R7
Sweysive is very consistent and resumes from a 138 day lay-off having two two recent trials on soft and heavy going under Zac Lloyd, who interestingly hops on the even money hotpot fav today, and should be hard to beat. Schofield is a decent replacement though. Frontrunner who will be suited at the shorter distance, where he’s 3:2-0, and he’s placed 2 from 3 first-up, so the $9 looks super value!
CL has also been ridden by Lloyd in his past four runs, and is also consistent without winning too many, he’s at $21 at the mo.
BET: Sweysive 5 units ew, CL 3 units ew, include in exotics with the fav
Chandon Burj
Sandown R5
She’s struggling to find some consistency at the moment, racing over varying distances, leading in some races, dropping out early in others. Newitt has had some success onboard, $10 on offer.
BET: 3 units ew
Sapphires Son
Canberra R5
Another one mixing his runs, the second two back at big odds was promising under Nick Heywood but the next run was a bit flat, and he jumps ship today, so maybe a place at $14…
BET: 3 units ew
Devine Miss
Canberra R6
Resumes from a 293 day spell, and tuned up for her return with a trial in late June. Two wins late last prep were followed by a last placing, which was probably the reason for the long break, but she has outstanding first-up stats (5:2-3). Good form at both the track and the distance, might need the run, but she possesses a wicked turn of foot, so watch for her late as a $10 shot.
BET: 4 units ew
Winning Aces
Belmont R5
He’s another get-back type who resumed 21 days ago with a smart finish for fourth at huge odds. One win in 29 doesn’t make for good reading, but worth another EW shot at $8.50.
BET: 3 units ew
Desert Nymph
Belmont R6
Needed the resuming run 20 days ago at Pinjarra but was only 2.2 lengths off the winner. T&D stats are outstanding, jockey is 10:2-6 onboard, and though up in grade a touch is worth following at $18…
