A promising third…
Just a third from Donation yesterday (5 units ew, $1.80), he’s taken to the AWT pretty well and a win is coming…

Thought he’d need the run first-up five weeks back, and in the circumstances it was a tidy run for fourth, less than two lengths from the winner. Has won second-up, does put his best form together in bursts, so rates an EW chance here if he can produce a finish at the mile and on this grade. $13 on offer.

We have a lot of time for this consistent gelding, and he resumed a month ago from a 275 day spell, prior to which he won his last two races in this grade. The 1200m last time was clearly too short, and obviously used as a tune-up. Up to 1425m today, still on the short side for him, does tend to get into his stride a few runs into the prep, and has decent form both on soft and in this class. EW today at $18, but looking for further I suspect…

Proving to be a bit of a frustration this prep… Won three in a row for us at the start of the year, and in higher grade than this, but the heavy ground simply does not suit, and I’m surprised they’re running him on it again here as he’s failed on it in three of his past four runs, the only success (a third) coming on soft. Has won on the track and at this distance, and I like the jockey booking, but that heavy going tells me “no”. Watch if conditions ease, if it gets to soft I’d give him a show at $17 as he’s generally very quick out of the gates, otherwise predict he’ll struggle in the conditions…
