Five winners, more Hall of Fame entries!!
What a way to kick off 2024, with five winners, two seconds, two thirds and two fourths, plus a qadi and a treble!
An amazing day for NZ jock Warren Kennedy as he rides an astonishing seven winners at Pukekohe, including two G2s and a G1, and three in a row for us, anchoring us to a share of the late qadi…
First up was Karman Line (5 units ew, $6/$2.10) who jumped out of the ground late to get up by a neck, with Badgeringdawitness running into fourth to give us a nice share in the $1934 first four.
Next was a similar run in the Railway with Waitak (2 units ew, exotics) getting up at a juicy $11/$2.90 and a $2130 trifecta.
Waitak goes in our Hall of Fame, which is up to almost 200 entries now!
Finally, a thrilling and beautifully-timed ride on Habana (5 units ew) to get up by the thinnest margin at $3.80/$1.70, but if you took him early you got $5.50.
The wins continued at Flemington with Glentaneous (10 unit win) sweeping up in the straight and putting them away without raising a sweat as $2.50 fav anchoring us to the late treble. And over in Tassie, Sir Simon (8 unit win) got the job done again as we was backed in to $1.80.
Places for Velocious ($1.20), Recommendation ($3.10), Tara Jasmine, with her usual late finish at a very nice $6.10 the place, and Texas Tee ($1.90), plus a fourth for Henry Hubber.
That’s a 46% return strike rate on our tips, a 21% winning rate, plus those exotics. Not a bad start to the year!!
Just two from the book as we take a breath, both with a firm chance of winning…
Nice little win double for today…
IDYLLIC
Tauherenikau, 1
I marked down the win in September as “unreal”, but subsequent runs up in the grade not so good. Frontrunner who drops back to the 1000m and gets back on a good track which may be the key today. Lisa sticks, $2.15 in a small field and expecting her to bounce back to winning ways here.
BET: 10 unit win
OH NO MIKKI
Wangaratta, 6
He knuckled over when coming out of the gates at Corowa two back, and flew home to just miss by a length. Marked as a next-timer, and Souquet sticking, we suggested he’d be steaming home 17 days ago at Albury and that’s exactly what happened, getting up at $4 for us. Actually drops a touch to the BM64 today, In the best form of his career and flying this prep, Souquet sticks, $3.60 fav, don’t see why he’s doesn’t win again…
BET: 10 unit win
