One from two…
Almost two from two yesterday…
A superb ride saw Wango Award (8 unit win) get up on the line from the back to edge out the hot fav, paying $3.80, a nice return as he dropped back from Listed company prior to the break.
Highground looked the winner for a while coming down the straight, but finally got nudged out by another hot fav…

Five from the book…
GRINGOTTS
Sandown, 3
There’s been some spruiking for this NZ gelding having his first start in Aus today, he won a trial impressively at Waipa in September. $5.50/$1.80 makes him a sound EW bet…
BET: 5 units ew
GIRL
Sandown, 7
Noted clearing maidens in some style at Bendigo in November under Johnny Allen before hopping up to BM70 and running a decent fourth here last month. Drops back today in grade and distance, and she can provide some value in this small field at $8 with her front-running race pattern.
BET: 6 unit win
JOLTIN’ JOE
Sandown, 8
Has won a couple of times for us at memorably big odds. Resumed in October after a 6 month spell with a couple of ordinary runs but improved significantly last time out at the Valley on Christmas Eve to run a close third at odds. Drops back to BM64 today, and rates a chance on that run. $10 shot, watch for him late…
BET: 4 units ew
GALENUS
Devonport, 6
Last six runs have been on the mainland, and hasn’t been far off despite not winning. EW shot at $6 in an open event.
BET: 8 unit win
SIR SIMON
Devonport, 8
He’s in fine form this prep, top two in his last five runs. Front-runner, so he’ll need to hold on over the 1880m today, but a real EW shot at $5 in a very open betting race, especially if they get him closer in the run.
BET: 4 units ew
