We spruiked up Fortified (10 unit win) in the first at Mackay yesterday, and what a joy to behold! The fav looked in for all money at the 100m, but got the staggers, and our lad came with a withering burst to get up by a neck at $2.80.
Upper House got right back, but again finished very well for a close fifth, I feel there’s win in her shortly for sure…
Tezoff was very disappointing, never got into the race, neither did C’Mon And Love Me or Mandalorian…
OK, Hump Day, with Riccarton on the synthetic, plus five from Aussie, and ten from the book.

CANTERBURY
Race 8: LA OPCION showed a nice turn of foot to win at Oamaru last time out, promising young jock Montes Oca sticks, and she looks a bargain at $15. Stiffer opposition today, but worth an ew wager…
BET: 3 units ew
Race 6: SAVVY MAN just missed here a month back after clearing maiden ranks the month before. Has to beat his co-fav stablemate Belasard today, could be close at around $3.80. JUNE BUG didn’t run up to her previous promise, finishing well back here 12 days ago, but does drop in grade here, $17 on offer.
BET: SM 6 unit win, JB 2 units ew, box these up in quinellas/trifectas
SANDOWN
Race 8: AEECEE DOLCE has run 3-1-3 for us in July, at good odds too… Stepped up to the BM70 last time out, and goes round again at $15 here, which I think is value. Good stats for this, she’s the sleeper…
BET: 4 units ew
Race 6: ASTEROIDEA produced a nice win on debut at Sale last year, and went on to race in some stronger races before heading to the paddock for 10 months. Returned three weeks ago at Bendigo with a fourth, the extra 200m looks like it could suit, $15 on offer.

BALAKLAVA
Race 7: DR COPPER ran a much-improved second here for us in June at SP $21, drops back to the 1400m today where his only win came. EW shot at $34. UNASSAILABLE goes round in the same event, caught the eye last October with a grinding win at Donald, then hopped up in grade for a couple of seconds. Been a bit ordinary this prep, steps up to the 1400m here where she’s placed 2 out of 3 times. Usually up around the pace, she’ll need to show a bit more staying power here at $8.00
BET: 2 units ew both horse, exotics in what is a very open betting race
DOOMBEN
Race 4: ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS bolted home from the back for us at $7.50 on resumption, he’s up in grade today, does like the distance but prefers it a little wet under foot. $41 rank outsider in a small field, but you never know…
BET: 2 unit win
BELMONT
Race 5: WINNING ACES racked up three places for us after being noted with a huge run from the back to win at Ascot in March. Resumes after almost 4 months, not a noted first-upper, but worth ew at $5.50/$2.05
BET: 3 units ew
Race 8: MAIN ENGINE ran poorly here two weeks back, mind you, she was up in grade and drawn in the carpark. Back to a more realistic level today, she can atone here based on her previous four runs for two wins and two thirds for us. Very open betting race this one… $6.50/$2.40 on offer…
