Today’s Tips – Sunday 9th January 2022
Took a while to get a winner, but like waiting for a bus, two came along at once in Bentayga ($6.20) and C’mon and Love Me ($4.90) within a minute of each other. And then the ride of the day in the get-out at Caulfield with young apprentice Logan McNeil producing Vespertine from stone motherless last for a win any of the top hoops would have been proud of, certainly bailed me out, and it was a thrilling watch!
Disappointed with Ollie’s ride on The Awesome Son, left it far too late as he came home from last with a wet sail at $4.70 after they gave the winner to big a start…
Plus we had a second, two thirds and two fourths, not bad out of 13 tips…
Kicking myself for missing that first leg in the qadi, went too skinny, and dropped the ex-HK Ho Ho Khan at the last minute, not laughing now as it cost me $2400 in pick-up!

Race 5: REGAL LION went in the book with a good finish for fourth in October after being spruiked, then ran a third at Hawera before winning at Rotovegas last time out under Opie. He jumps ship to the fav today, but we get Matt Cameron onboard, and while he jumps in grade and drops in distance, he looks value at $17, chuck him in the exotics…

Race 6: TEXAS TEA was backed late last time, came out the gates last put powered home under Sam for a fine win. Gets Smilin’ Joe up top today and is another value shot at $10.

ALBANY
Race 6: We spaces his wins pretty far apart, but WESTERN KING is capable of a decent finish. Back from a 7 month lay-off on Boxing Day, he ran last of eight here, and should take benefit from that, gets a new jock onboard today and has won second up, but he’s worth every cent of the $81 on offer (365) today, but I’d still stick him in the exotics, just in case…

Race 8: AECEE DOLCE went in the book in May with a big run to win second up at Geelong. Went to the paddock for 7 months then returned and jumped last of 11 and stayed there on resumption. Can only assume she’ll strip fitter today, $34 on offer at the mo…

PORT LINCOLN
Race 7: EFFORTKAT presented three weeks ago here with a 2/2 record, and after winning with a patient ride in November here, was expected to make it three in a row, however, she assumed her usual midfield position in the run and did nothing more, assuming the good ground wasn’t to her liking, and on that basis I’d be careful today… if wet I’d commit to the win, but ew looks best today

Race 4: CLEAR BLONDE is up again after here run at Warwick Farm three weeks ago. I’ll refer to my last assessment of her that day (her run on 20th May) when she screamed home for fourth. The heavy going will work in her favour today in this small field.
