YARRA VALLEY
Race 5: AKKA’S METEOR, noted with a big finish at Ballarat in June, then ran a close fourth before heading to the paddock for 5 months or so. Came back at the end of Dec with a close second and another big finish to almost catch Croc Lurkin’ at Werribee. Been knocking on the door and can clear maidens today at the $6 mark…

Race 8: SANTA FE ROSE and NUMPTY lead the betting in this small field, and after her impressive debut at Stoney Creek last month, it’s hard to back against the former ($2.50 fav). Numpty needed the run at Geelong in Nov after a 4 month spell, then ran a good second at Wangaratta last time for us at SP of $12.

COWRA
Race 3: POSSIBLY SO produced a huge finish for third at big odds on debut after some good trials. Will run fav today ($2.70) and should be too good for these…

Race 6: DAMREEL swooped late for a third at Orange in October, and we put him on watch based on that run. Went for a 73 day spell to run last at Nowra two weeks ago, but back at his fav distance and softer going, he could be a factor today at $12.

Race 9: PAHANG was spruiked by his trainer back in Sept and finished well on that occasion, then ran poorly next time up. Been to the paddock for 3 months or so, and may need the run, so a small bets ew today at $12.

LISMORE
Race 7: GEM OF THE LOCHS had two big odds wins in Oct/Nov, the second one for us at $21. Since run a close third and fourth and looks backable today. ULTIMATE MAN was noted backed in hugely at Coffs in August, and has since run a first and two placing for us. Been on a break, and his first-up stats suggest he’ll need this, but like GOTL warrants a small ew bet. Include both in exotics.

SUNSHINE COAST
Race 5: SALTOREE noted stuck on the fence at Eagle Farm in August, but flew home for the win once she was out. Was midfield the next two before heading to the paddocks for 4 months and has trialled nicely in Dec. Can be a factor in this at $8.
