Race 7: He’s given us plenty this prep, so sticking with JOLTIN’ JOE (baseballer Joe di Maggio’s nickname btw) in his sternest test to date up to BM78. His racing pattern means he’ll be spotting the leader a start, but if Mertens can ride him a little closer, he can win this… Watch for him dropping in late, ew all day at $7.50.

NOWRA
Race 4: DIVINE CRESCENT backs up after 7 days, got butchered two runs back, running into traffic and finishing fast for third. Ran third again last week under the same jock, but gets Hutchings today, which could make all the difference. The $9 on offer also makes him backable ew.

HOBART
Race 6: FIVEFINGERDISCOUNT has moved stable, bringing some solid Victorian form with him. Won a recent trial and can make a good start to his Tazzie career at $3.50.
BET: 8 unit win
Race 9: FULL KNOTS AHEAD bolted in late December here, then won again for us a week later, then ran third at SP $8 three weeks ago. Good stats for this all round, and another one at odds with a great ew chance at $17. Very wary of HO HO KHAN, the former HK horse who beat Dark Dream last run at Caulfield. Now he’s re-discovered the winning touch, he‘ll be dangerous today around the $4 mark. Has trialled well recently and beat the fav in that win.
BET: Can just about get ew odds on HHK (5 units ew), but if the money comes, 8 unit win. FKA: 3 units ew. Include both in your exotics…

Race 2: I AM YOURS
I was watching a post-race interview with trainer John Hawkes after one of his debutantes won well last week. In it, he mentioned he had even better horses coming up on debut, so I’ve latched onto this one today… Two trials haven’t revealed too much, but he’s well-bred and could run a bold race if ready at $4.
