Today’s Tips – Saturday 8th January 2022

Great start to the day yesterday with the early selections providing two out of three winners, The Inevitable somehow not winning after screaming to the lead with 100m to go.

Full Knots Ahead and Cool Missile provided the wins and Twice On Sunday ran fourth after leading for much of the run, Clear Blonde and Numpty were scratched.

Plenty from the book today with 13 selections, and I’m feeling lucky!!

Just a reminder, we have a few hours downtime scheduled for Sunday for the website as we perform some maintenance and tweaking. Please make sure your notifications are turned on in Facebook for ongoing updates, plus Sunday’s tips.

AWAPUNI

Race 6: BALALAIKA was noted slow away and a huge finish for fifth two back, and was expected to go close last time out, only to run ninth. Think she’s worth another pop today at the $7 mark with J Parkes up top…

BET: 3 units ew

Race 8: Not sure the 2200m suited BENTAYGA at Ellerslie last time out, fading late when caught wide, but he’s out for another go here today and should be closer. $6 on offer.

CAULFIELD

Race 2: THE AWESOME SON drops in grade from BM88 to BM70 after running a very close eighth here on Boxing Day by less than a length in a blanket finish. His previous two wins for us were outstanding finishes from the back, and he’ll be dropping in late as usual here today, and his breeding suggests that the additional distance looks fine. Ollie jumps onboard, which will do no harm at all, and he’ll run close to fav, $3.40 on offer at the mo.

BET: 8 unit win

Race 3: LUNA CAT gets a 4kg swing with Lavish Girl after going down to her by 1.5 lengths last time out at Flemington when they were joint favs. Impressive winning at the Valley early Dec, and can reverse form today. RIOYUKI is in the same race, followed up a stirring finish in September with a win at Kyneton. Outclassed next time at Flem, then ran third at the Valley. These three look to have the race between them, box ‘em in a tri?

BET: 5 unit win the Cat, boxed trifecta the three

Race 9: VESPERTINE was spruiked up on her return last month after 3 months away and finished like a train into second at $31 SP. ON the basis of that, the drop in grade, and the natural improvement, she’s a real chance today at $6 or so…

ROSEHILL

Race 3: AND WE DANCED makes her Aussie debut after three runs in NZ, and joins Chris Waller. Has trialled ahead of this after a 2 month break. Gets back in the run but has a good finish, will be a lot of interest to see how she goes in the small field.

BET: 5 unit win

Race 4: HASTY DUCHESS was resolute when winning at Wyong a month back on the heavy, but did nothing last time out at Randwick. Open race, and she’s a show at $7.

Race 5: DARLEB is in a rich vein of form, winning three in a row for us and returns for another go at Rosehill. Good stats for this distance and has good form in the wet. Hughie jumps onboard, and he’s a real chance at $6.00.

IPSWICH

Race 10: LONADO went in the book in June last year with her only win at Pakenham, where she was trapped back on the inside and flew home right on the line (see link). Been a while since that win but she is capable, and finished her last prep with a third at Toowoomba before heading to the paddock for 5 months. Don’t sell the farm, but she’s a possible sleeper today, especially for the exotics…

GOLD COAST

Race 7: TAMILAIDE is another one with a get-back race pattern, but possess a wicked finish, and he hasn’t missed the frame in nine runs. Ticks a lot of boxes today, and it’s hard not seeing him make the frame again today in a good contest, $7.50 looks value!

Race 8: THE MOVE was impressive winning first up in August at Doomben, and followed up here with another win. Went for a spell, then ran fourth on the Sunny Coast and has recently won a trial. Proven second up, he’s $4 at the moment, and I like his chances today.

BET: 8 unit win

GLEN INNES

Race 3: C’MON AND LOVE ME caught the eye at Armidale in May, was spelled, then came back after 6 months and won first up for us at Quirindi in Nov at $10. Had excuses last time out at Tamworth, stumbling out of the gate and finishing lame. Up in distance but down in grade, she’ll be hard to beat here… $3.50 on offer.

BET: 8 unit win
