Another big Saturday of racing, with 11 meetings in Aus, and two here in NZ. We usually run at a win strike rate of 20-25% on Saturdays, let’s have a look what’s on offer with 17 from the book today…

WINGATUI
Race 1: TACTFULL was noted three weeks back here, jumped well but drifted back and was blocked for a run in the final stages, finally ran on well for second and was marked as “next time”… This is it, gets his chance to clear maidens, currently $4.20/$1.80…
BET: 5 units ew at the moment, 10 unit win if the money comes…

Race 6: ASATHOUGHT finally rewarded us for our patience last time out at Gore, powering home from her usual racing pattern at the back to get up at $8 for us. Up to Listed grade today and can go on with it now she’s back in the groove, $3.60 on offer
BET: 5 unit win
Race 9: TYLER EIGHT dropped away in the finish over the mile last time out here, so the drop back to 1400m should suit, though untested on the easy ground. Good strike record, he’ll run close to fav in an open betting event, currently $3.60
BET: 8 unit win
CAULFIELD
Race 1: MINGORA was absolutely brilliant from last two weeks back at the Bool. Just watch the replay (link below), she’s a dozen lengths off the leader at the final bend, and every time I watch it I don’t think she can win, but the finish is astonishing! Also catch her previous win when she powered away down the straight to win by two lengths. Not sure I’ve missed something here, rise in grade possibly, but at $16 she’s today’s sleeper…

Race 2: VARDANI is ex-French, noted in November then got up for us next time out (took him at $9.50, backed in to $3.50). Then ran a close fourth at Flem before being hampered at the start at Sandown two weeks ago and finishing last. Look for a better effort today at $11. Fav WORTHILY came with a reputation from GB, and wasn’t that far off after a 9 month layoff. Will strip fitter today and looks the one to beat.
BET: Worthily, 8 unit win, Vardani 3 units ew. Include both in exotics.
Race 3: LOST IMPACT was a 6 length winner in December and has been close in two runs at the higher grade. Goes up again today in an open betting race $4.20 at the mo) but is up against Dirty Deeds, who’s dropping somewhat in grade, albeit untried over this distance. Tough race to pick.
BET: We’ll stick with a 5 unit win on Lost Impact, Dirty Deeds for the quinella…
Race 5: UNFLINCHING is unbeaten in three and has impressed. Steps up to the 1200m today and has to get past the well thought of Generation, who resumes after a 3 month spell.
BET: Again, we’ll stick with our blackbooker with a 6 unit win, but they look the squat quinella, so 10 units on that too…
Race 6: GROOVY KINDA LOVE and VESPERTINE both contest this one, a look to be the two favs. GKL comes off a 2 month spell, and was noted in October slaughtering a big field at Ballarat, and followed that up with two good runs in higher grade. Vesperine was spruiked in December after a lay-off and ran a close second at SP $31, duly obliged us next time out here last month at $5, and has great stats for this.
BET: Can back both, 5 units ew, 10 unit quinella
RANDWICK
Race 2: Once Collett extracted MARKWELL DREAMER from his place back on the fence, he flew home to put them away here two weeks back at big odds (check the link). Up in grade today, but good stats for this at $12.
BET: 4 units ew
Race 3: TYCOON HALLIE is most consistent, her race pattern has her back in the run but she’s got a good finish in her, and back up to the mile today won’t do any harm. Up in grade, gets the blinkers on first time and is a good ew shot at $7.50.
BET: 3 units ew
Race 8: HILAL found form at the end of his past prep, getting up at $8 and $2.40 for us here in October. Spelled but trialled last week with a win and has won first up. Good stats for this, never failed to at least place here in five runs, and $13 looks generous…
BET: 4 units ew
DOOMBEN
Race 4: COOL LAD missed out in the week at an abandoned meet and gets his chance to complete the hat-trick here. Up in grade in another open race, must go in at $4.40/$1.95…
BET: 5 units ew, 10 unit win if the money comes…
NEWCASTLE
Race 2: RUINART noted flying home in September for third at Wyong and was marked as “next time”… We waited 3 months for that and she almost obliged two weeks ago, but surely goes in today at $1.65. Back from the City and looks like the beat-the-bank horse today…
BET: 10 unit win
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 1: NIGHT PASSAGE blitzed ‘em back in September at Ballarat and has been thereabouts since, including a third and a win last time out at $4 for us last month. Steps up in grade but can win in another open event. $4.20 in a small field…
BET: 8 unit win
KYNETON
Race 1: AKKA’S METEOR has a good place strike rate and possesses a good finish. Gets a new jock today, and he can drop on these late in another open betting race, $4.60 at the mo…
