Today’s Tips: Saturday 2nd April 2022
10 years ago today I had a quintuple heart bypass… let’s see if we can give the bookies a heart attack today, nearly 30 horses from the book on a busy Saturday!!
Just getting the NZ picks up first, Aussie to follow…
AVONDALE
Race 1: VISTOWN was a good thing beaten three weeks ago at Counties after being blocked no less than three times on the run in. She’ll run fav today around and with a decent run should win…
BET: 8 unit win
Race 4: TIGHTLIGN ran a decent sixth behind the talented Johny Johny first up at Ellerslie four weeks back, he’s got a nice second-up record, is 1/1 on the track and has nice stats generally. Generally races near the pace, and a chance today at $12.
BET: 3 units ew
Race 7: AQUAOIR caught the eye screaming home after being spruiked up prior to the race, and while just missing the placings in the next three, she hasn’t been that far away. Very close betting market here, back up to the 2100m could suit her race pattern… $6 on offer.
BET: 4 units ew
AWAPUNI
Race 2: MORMAIRE got up for us at Otaki a month ago at $5.50. Noted when powering home here on debut, and though up in grade is 2/2 at this distance. Open betting race, $7 at the mo, ew looks a good bet…
BET: 4 units ew
Race 5: BELCLARE just keeps on producing, having won three times for us since going in the book in November. Unbeaten on the track, hasn’t missed a place at the distance, Lisa’s 3/4 on her… Up to Listed grade for her biggest test, but reckon you can back this front-running mare ew with confidence. $5/$2 on offer.
BET: 5 units ew
Race 8: KUSUDA noted bolting in back in July, then followed up for us in September with a $17 win. Back from 6 months in the paddock, and though she’s not won first up, her other stats are excellent. Trialled recently, and could surprise at $31…
BET: 3 units ew
BENDIGO
Race 1: VARDANI is in fine form, winning the last two for us. Drops in grade but jumps in distance, which looks like it will suit his big late finishing style. $4 on offer, I like his chances…
BET: 6 unit win
Race 2: PEPPER’S GHOST finished his last prep in fine order with a couple of easy wins at BM64. Spelled for 6 months, he returns today over 1300m and up to BM70, which may be a bit short for him, so possibly this is a tune-up for him, however, worth a small punt at $51…
BET: 2 units ew, could spice up exotics…
Race 5: VESPERTINE ran a nice second at Flem behind Annavisto last time out, getting us a nice quinella, and she drops in grade for this, Race fit, she’s a real chance at $6.
BET: 4 units ew
Race 6: FIGHTING ARROW noted breezing home by 7 lengths to win his maiden at Geelong in November then won again in December for us. Moving up the grades has been a challenge but fa v jockey sticks and he’s an ew shot in this at $9…
BET: 3 units ew
Race 8: ZAYYDANI is one I’m very keen on today, won her last two in November at $9 and $12, and has barely missed a place at this distance. Looks great value at $14…
BET: 5 units ew
RANDWICK
Race 2: DEVIL RACER came with powerful burst to get up at Canterbury to win his maiden three weeks ago, way up in class and the $41 reflects that. JALMARI stepped up to G2 last time out at $101, and was only 4 lengths off them. He produced a huge finish in Feb to break maidens, then ran a second for us at $31 SP next time out.
BET: 2 units ew DR, 3 units ew Jalmari.
Race 5: EDIT was knocking on the door again before heading the paddock in late October. Trialled for his return and ran a nice second at Scone on resuming. Can get some of this in another open betting race at $7. FAR TOO EASY ($5) is another classy animal, is 3/3 on soft but untried over heavy, where the fav is 2/2. Both up in class but backable ew.
BET: 3 units ew both, exotics with fav.
Race 6: A real conundrum here as we have five in this! DAUMIER ($12) got up for us at $21 two runs back, and certainly wasn’t disgraced behind FIREBURN last time out. The fav will be hard to run down again, especially in the heavy going. COUNT THE HEADLIGHTS also in this, and could be a value punt with Ms Kah onboard at $18. SHE’S EXTREME ($7.50) and LET’SROLLTHEDICE ($11) are also talented animals but I think they all play second fiddle to this talented fav today
BET: 10 unit win Fireburn, ew units on the others as you fancy, exotics.
Race 7: REGAL LION ($4.60) was an eye-catcher just 5 days ago, running second for us at SP $21 in the Tulloch at Newcastle. Very quick back-up, and JMac jumps onboard, but will need to be at his best to beat Hitotsu…
BET: 5 units ew
Race 8: MASKED CRUSADER has a place chance today in what looks like a contest between the top three.
BET: 2 units ew
Race 9: BANKERS CHOICE , the former Kiwi galloper, hasn’t made a bad start to his Aussie career, with close up fourth and fifth placings. Some heavy hitters in this but is an ew shot at $15. I’M THUNDERSTRUCK ($6) heads north for this, sporting good stats for the journey. Hughie jumps on (1/1), but they’ll both need to be sharp to beat this fav, who’s racked up a hat-trick coming into this.
BET: BC 2 units ew, IT 4 units ew
TOOWOOMBA
Race 4: LONADO capped off a series of placings with a win for us here two weeks ago beating the second fav, and now she’s got the message, she can go on with it. Up a touch in class, $2.60 on offer…
BET: 6 unit win
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 8: SMOKIN’ VAL steps up to Listed company here, her biggest test to date, but she’s on her fav track and distance. Returned from a spell here two weeks ago and will have taken benefit from the run. Chance at $23.
BET: 2 units ew
GUNNEDAH
Race 4: THE PHANTOM BANTAM started this prep with a couple of close-up fourth placings, but not much since. EW at $12…
BET: 2 units ew
EAGLE FARM
Race 7: ENTERPRISE POMME impressed on debut in July, and hasn’t been far off since. Won on her return after 4 months off, then won a trial, but her next one at the Gold Coast was ordinary as she faded after being handy in the run. Not out of this at $7.50.
BET: 3 units ew
Race 9: We’ve been all over FESTIVAL PRINCE since his late August win, when he went on to win three more for us. Returned from the paddock two weeks ago with a fast-finishing third at the GC, and the extra 200m should suit today. Robbie Fradd jumps onboard, he’ll run fav at around $3.60.
BET: 5 units ew if the betting allows, 10 unit win if the money comes…
ARARAT
Race 4: MT BULLER has been contesting better races than this and would suggest the heavy ground didn’t suit last time. Poised to bounce back here at $4.
BET: 5 unit win
