Nine out of eleven!
Tremendous strike rate yesterday! With a scratching reducing us to eleven picks, we had nine provide a return, as follows:
Definitely the pick of the bunch was the winner of the Wodonga Gold Cup in Night Passage (4 units ew) with a beautiful ride from Dean Holland. As indicated, they’d been waiting for the firmer ground, having scratched the mare several times, and it was worth the weight as Holland got her home in a blanket finish at $8.50/$3.00.
Unassailable (10 unit win) lived up to her name, backing up her resuming win three weeks back at $3.20.
And a rather obvious one in Cotel (10 unit win), who had to respond when under pressure, and did so with ease close to home, paying $1.40, she’s going places for sure…
Placings included, at place odds:
Moiras Town (3 units ew, $2.50)
Telling Tales (3 units ew, $2.40)
Destination (5 units ew, $2.40)
Social Conscience (4 units ew, $1.60)
Genjiro produced an eye-catching run for third in a small field, and we’ve got him marked down for next time…
Ghost Doctor ran a close fourth at big odds, but the disappointment was the shocking ride on Chokito, held back till it was too late and running into a wall of horses… a good thing beaten, methinks…
The other runner, I Am Mighty, ran a close fifth…
Nine out of eleven in the frame, that’s an 82% return strike rate!
A busy Saturday for us again, with 25 from the book, let’s find you some more winners!!
We’ve recently updated our Hall of Fame, go here and have a look at our proudest moments and biggest winners, all backed up by our Archive page…
THE BEST
GOSPODIN
Te Rapa, 6
Has run three close ones without winning since returning from Aus and the drop in grade and weight will help, as will the soft track. Riddell back onboard means he’s a real value bet at $8.
BET: 5 units ew
AQUAOIR
Te Rapa, 7
Close second on resuming last month but fund the Listed level too much last time out, and rises in grade again here. Might find these too good at $13…
BET: 2 units ew
REMEDIES
Caulfield, 1
Massively impressive on debut at Cranbourne two weeks again, spanking ‘em by 3.5 lengths. Zahra sticks, can’t see why she doesn’t win again at $3.20, keeping out her stablemates… Looks special…
BET: 10 unit win
DESERT ICON
Caulfield, 7
Definitely not suited by the heavy condition at MV last time out, and the return to firmer footing means he’ll be closer today. Previous three runs were excellent (2 wins and a third), likes the T&D, value at $7 for me.
BET: 5 units ew
ROOTS
Caulfield, 9
Impressive at HQ three weeks back and is building a nice record. Stats all stack up, and while up in grade, has already finished second at G2, albeit to My Whisper on a heavy track. Back to good going, she’ll take some beating, and $3.50 available on 365.
BET: 10 unit win
WINNING VERSE , TWICE AS SPECIAL
Rosehill, 5
These two are top and bottom of the book, with WV fav at $4/$1.75, and TAS is the $41 outsider. WV comes through a strong form race, and TAS does have first up form.
BET: WV 5 units ew, TAS 2 units ew, include both in exotics
PROOST, PEPPER’S GHOST, TIDAL RUSH
Rosehill, 6
This is a tough, open event, with these three sitting at $10, $15 and $19. I’m leaning towards Proost, the in-form Benny Looker stays onboard, and she’s the best prospect for me, include the others in exotics by all means…
BET: Proost 3 units ew, 2 units ew the others, exotics
RONDINO, REGAL LION
Rosehill, 7
I like Rondino’s stats for this, has won his last two for us ($10 and $4.80) and though up to Listed grade today can figure in the finish late on at $13. The talented Tyler Schiller (6:3-1) sticks. Regal Lion got up for us three back at a monstrous $31. $19 on offer today.
BET: Rondino 5 units ew, RL 2 units ew.
DEMOCRACY MANIFEST
Rosehill, 10
Ultra-consistent and drops significantly in grade here as $3 fav. He’ll be surging home late, so back up to the 1400m suits nicely.
BET: 10 unit win
LAROUPE, GORUSH LIGHTNING, KATTEGAT
Kembla Grange, 6
After two nice wins, Laroupe went up to City grade at Canterbury and faded out of it over the 1200m. Back in grade and back to the 1000m, she can sneak away and win this from the front, especially with the scratchings… $2.20 on offer. GL and KG ew at odds.
BET: Laroupe 10 unit win, other two 2 units ew
SMOKIN’ VAL
Morphettville, 9
Ridden upside down here 10 days ago and can make amends here. Previous form this prep was solid, and though she doesn’t win many, is a sound EW bet here at $8.
BET: 5 units ew
COCO ROX
Gold Coast, 7
Front-running mare that I have a lot of time for… Hops up in grade for this, and if she can get away quick as she frequently does, she may be able to see them off back from Sydney racing… $5 on offer
BET: 5 units ew
FORMULA EXCEL
Ipswich, 5
Noted breaking his maiden at the end of October in his second run back after a spell in HK. Then ran an ordinary eighth, but back on softer ground may be the key today, $7 on offer.
BET: 4 units ew
TWICE ON SUNDAY
Ipswich, 6
Has changed barns, so her Sydney figures have her in this at $4.60
BET: 3 units ew
TADWEER
Ascot, 2
Could be a sleeper on his return after 6 months off. Ran two seconds for us last prep, his only failure up in grade at HQ this time last year. Parnham rode him to a trial second three weeks ago, he’s a shot at $9…
BET: 3 units ew
THE REST
CLEAR BLONDE
Kembla Grange, 1
COUTURE
Coonamble, 3
FOX SPIRIT
Coonamble, 6
WINSTON BLUE
Ipswich, 7
ZOU ZOU KACANARKIS
Kilcoy, 7
