Three winners out of seven!!
Not a bad day at the races, with a 42.8% win strike rate!
Craig Zackey snuck Avalene (5 units ew) right up the inside rail to get home by a head and two short heads in a blanket finish at $4.50/$1.80.
And the recent gelding operation had no detrimental effect on Raging Rush (5 units ew) as he backed up his win 11 days ago with another one yesterday, despite a drift out to $5.90/$2.20…
And over at the Valley, Unflinching (10 unit win) also survived a betting drift to get up by a head at $4.10.
Not sure what Warren Kennedy was doing on Firriato (5 units ew) as he appeared to just drop his hands as the horse powered through a gap, only to finish third paying $2.50. Denied us the trifecta, but she’s still definitely on the watch list!!
Girl Mania just missed the placings with a close up fourth…

Vistown fav here and is in great form, $4.40/$2.10 on 365, makes him a great EW bet. CB just OK recently, and Tidal Rush finally broke maidens for us at $26 two weeks back, both EW shots at $7 and $23.

Kennedy takes over (can repay us here) on this consistent gelding, and he’s a great chance as $2.70 fav.

Missed a chance to run last week but fronts up here as $4 fav, backable EW.

TYLER EIGHT, RETURN WITH HONOUR, GIVEHERAGO
Invercargill, 3
Returning a day short of a year Tyler Eight appeals, and is unbeaten first up, $4.20 fav. RWH ran last of nine three weeks ago, but previous form was solid, second fav here. GHAG pretty consistent, drops in grade for this as a $10 shot.

SAVVY MAN, LOCHNABERRY
Invercargill, 5
Savvy Man made us wait for his second win, but obliged two weeks ago for us at $11, will run fav today at around $3. Lochnaberry had a next-time badge on her after an eyecatching fourth on Boxing Day, then ran a disappointing ninth next up. Capable of better and is an EW chance here at $9.

Was a drifter in betting in October but won by nearly 5 lengths (beat Lochnaberry) and has run 2-4-1 since, getting up at Gore for us at a nice $6.50 last time out. Very backable EW at $5/$2

PC was very impressive winning on NY Day and is well backable EW at $8.50. PA won on debut and followed up with a couple of thirds but will need to find a bit more as a $15 shot. I listened to Philip Stokes spruik up Climbing Star a couple of days back, so have to include her after that as a $6 shot…

Here’s what we said about FA last time out: He’s building to a win after three placings this prep, though his get-back style not really suited round the Valley, but if Shinn can cosy him up closer this time, he’ll ping past them round the final bend. He did just that for a nice win, and he’s a great EW shot as $5 fav. DOH not done much this prep, maybe a place and exotics chance?

Annavisto’s first-up form makes her a worthy $2.10 fav here, hard to go past, she’s the class horse of the field… Vespertine spaces her wins out, but is shaping as if the next one is coming soon. Maybe not here, but an EW shot at $11. EP back after nearly a year off, won for us in her last race at a juicy $26. Might need this as a $41 shot…

Hard to go past Nature Strip, but value may be in our tip as the $81 outsider. Hugely up in grade but a place is possible.
