A win and two places, but hit the post for the multi…
Touch of frustration as our place trixie and multi just missed by one as Sacred Kiwi failed to place…
However, we did have some return, with Absolute Legend (3 units ew) winning at $6.40/$2.30, with thirds from Golden Fantasy (4 units ew) and $1.70 and Red Hot Chillypins (5 units ew) at the same price.
Nine race card at Teherenikau on Waitangi Day, where we’ve got five picks over two races, and a total of ten from the book.
Ten on offer, with some big odds on show…
GEE STRING, RUM
Tauherenikau, 3
GS went through a consistent spell around 15 months ago where he won or placed for us four races in a row. Had a couple of spells since then. Two runs back have been OK, and could be ready to strike with J Riddell onboard. $12 shot. Rum finally got up for us at big odds two back, but didn’t get the mile next time out after hauling himself into contention before fading late. If he can repeat his front-running tactics from the win, the drop back to 1000m could suit, and you’d need to keep him safe even at $19…
BET: GS 4 units ew, Rum 2 units ew, throw them both in the exotics…
BELLE EN ROUGE, BELCLARE, BURITZ
Tauherenikau, 7
Hard to see BER beaten her after recent performances, and with Owen Patrick jumping onboard, she looks a shoo-in at around even money. Belclare also drops in grade for this, and she’s been very consistent under McNab, and must rate the main threat at $6. Buritz resumes after 3 months off, has trialled for this, and was very consistent prior, including a win for us at Riccarton for us in November at $11.Has placed first up, likes the distance and going, so represents some vale=ue at the $41 mark.
BET: BER should win it, 10 unit win, can back the other two 3 units ew, but include all three in exotics.
GENJIRO, MAKBEEL
Wodonga, 5
We spruiked Genjiro to add to his one from 35 race win record last week, and he led all the way fr a $4 return. $5 chance today and can repeat. Former NZer Makbeel was noted a month ago resuming at Stony Creek with a dominating win, peeling off from the back to get home by 5.3 lengths in his maiden win. Winning jockey sticks and the jump back up to 2050m should suit, $13 looks generous.
BET: Can back both 3 units ew, but again, include both in exotics
MAKTASTIC
Belmont, 6
Makbeel’s distance half-sibling resumes in this after a six month spell, and has trialled up twice recently, so should be ready to roll… Good place form (9 from 21) and showed some form before the break, including a $31 second for us in July. Gets Chris Parnham up top, and can figure in this at $12.
BET: 3 units ew
BEACH WEST
Belmont, 9
She led all the way to break maidens at Northam in August before spelling. Had won a trial in prep for her return, where she ran a second for us here, and brother Steve Parnham retains the ride today, where she’s an $8 shot, and can figure over the extra 200m.
BET: 3 units ew
POSSIBLY SO
Bathurst, 4
Returned from 4 month rest to win here for us in early December a4 $8.50, then backed that up with and well-timed finish at Orange to continue his good previous form where he’s rarely been out of the frame. Gets back but has a withering finish in him, back to 120mm today, so Cavallo will need him a little closer in the run, but he’s a shot in this small field at $6…
BET: 6 unit win
