Today’s Tips: Monday 25th July 2022
A frustrating day on the punt workface yesterday… I’m obviously no jockey or trainer, but watching some of these horses’ runs begs the question, why let a horse drift to the back of a short race? Maybe they just don’t have any early speed…
But decisions late on, like going for gaps that aren’t there, really ramps up the frustration levels…
Once again, Blazing Tycoon suffered this fate, for about the sixth time I’m watched him race, blocked for a run and finishing fourth.
We did get some placings yesterday, and if you managed to string them together, you’d have had a decent return.
Chokito ($1.40, awful run), Day Light ($1.30 hung on well for third) Lord Darci ($1.30, beaten by a long way) and All Ashore ($3.60, finished well, one to watch) were our successes from yesterday.
A quieter day today, with seven from the book…
SEVEN FOR MONDAY…
SUNSHINE
COAST
Race 6: GEM OF THE LOCHS rolled in with two big odds wins, then ran a couple of placings for us before heading to the paddock. Has not returned with the same form, and has been well beaten in both runs to date. Scratchings have decimated this field, so she’s a small wager at $6.
BET: 3 unit win
COROWA
Race 4: GHOST DOCTOR has some nice stats for this, though he’ll need to go some to beat this fav who won in town last time out and is in sparkling form.
BET: 4 unit win, maybe exotics?
Race 5: OH NO MIKKI was better last run and is on the 8 day back-up. Best distance for him and with Nick Heywood jumping onboard, he’s today’s sleeper, and deffo a chance at $11.
BET: 5 units ew
SCONE
Race 7: RUSSLEY CROWN is lightly-raced and popped up for a very close second last time after not handing the heavy going on resumption. He won on debut with a front-running display, and expected to go well here as $3 fav. Puzzles me why BANDAHARA is $16 in this. Won two for us in April/May as well as some nice placing last year. Ran a very close second after a two month spell, and I rate him a chance at that price…
BET: RC 6 unit win, B 3 units ew, include both in exotics…
WARRACKNABEAL
Race 9: ROYAL FOX has been a bit hit-and-miss since his maiden win, but never too far away. Building nicely this prep, and he looks primed for this.
MR MISCHIEF drops back to the grade he placed for us at twice recently. Has a tidy record here, and while he’s not won at this distance, the drop back of 300m might suit him as he’s normally up with the pace… $15 on offer.
BET: RF 5 units ew, MM 2 units ew, exotics of course…
