Today’s Tips: Monday 1st August 2022
Couple of winners yesterday, one expected, but not the other!
Irish import Cap de Joie (10 unit win) fulfilled all the promise of her winning Aussie debut two weeks back with a majestic ride from Ollie at Bendigo, swooping down the outside to reel them in by nearly two lengths from the back at $2.20.
And after several undistinguished runs, we were very low-key on Sir Simon
(3 units ew), who eventually got to the front, was headed, but fought back to get home at $6.50/$2.20. Also added up to a nice trifecta…
Some placing s too, Possibly So (10 unit win) was ridden poorly in my eyes, kept in the last two in the run as usual, and we did point out that he’d need to be closer. Proven correct, as he steamed home to just miss at $1.40 the place, but cost us the win…
Kattegat (4 units ew) trucked on late into third at $2.10.
King Charming (10 unit win) also made third at $2.10, but looked like he needed the run. Next time…
And, of course, Blazing Tycoon (5 units ew, paid $2.20 the place), here’s what we wrote:
KALGOORLIE
Race 5: Well, it’s well-documented what I think about BLAZING TYCOON, consistently gets into positions that he simply cannot get out of, so let’s hope Ms Corver has had a word in her ear! Needs to be closer, and hopefully can do that from the ace draw, because he’s certainly got a good finish in him. $7 on offer, I’m going to be optimistic (help me out Dunc!)
BET: 5 units ew
We were bang on again, she did the same thing, dropped back from the wasted ace draw and screamed home trying to find the gap that wasn’t there. Dear me…
A quiet start to the month today, with five from the book, all with some prospects at good odds…
FIVE FROM THE BOOK…
ROCKHAMPTON
Race 3: AHOOSHU spanked em by nearly 4 lengths at Mackay two back, then didn’t see the 1300m out after leading to finish a close fourth. Back to 1100m today, outstanding stats for this, will start as fav in a close betting affair and a small field at $2.60, but his best wins.
BET: 10 unit win
Race 5: HIGHGROUND noted early last month winning with ease here, then didn’t see out the 1500m after leading. Back to 1300m should suit, and he’ll go round as second fav, $3.30 on offer at the mo.
BET: 5 unit win
Race 7: AERIAL COMBAT and TEZOFF contest this one, and up against two fancied favs. Tezoff hasn’t won for nearly a year but has run a series of placings for us at super odds. Drops in grade today, and distance, so will need to be closer to the pace, but an ew shot at $11. AC is at a similar price and similarly has reasonable stats for this, but has been some way off the winner in recent runs, so a smaller ew wager on him. Exotics could be interesting…

PORT
MACQUARIE
Race 6: ULTIMATE MAN went in the book a year ago, and has subsequently returned three wins for us at $1.30, $6 and $8. Has good second up stats and the extra 100m won’t worry him, real chance at $5.
BET: 4 units ew
