Today’s Tips – 1st January 2022

Joltin’ Joe almost got us the choccies with his signature late finish, very difficult to win from back there on the tight MV track, where the post is only 200 metres from the final bend…
A huge day’s racing today, 18 from the book today with plenty to offer at Flem and Ellerslie, better get into it…
ELLERSLIE
Race 1: Some good ‘uns in this, so TIGHTALIGN will need shake off that last failure now he’s back to BM74, where he’s had success previously. Led all the way to win for us at Cambridge in September at $13, the $21 on offer at the mo, makes him an ew bet.
BET: 2 units ew
Race 3: MASCARINTO murdered ‘em by almost 7 lengths on debut in October before a close third at Te Rapa a month later. Up against some class horse here but not hopeless at $14 and offers some value in the exotics.
BET: 2 units ew
Race 6: DARK DESTROYER was noted breaking maidens at Taupo in October, has followed that up with runs behind a couple of good horses, then won for us early last month at Matamata. Weatherley on form, so rates a good chance in this.
BET: 5 unit win
Race 7: CHAKANA did a great job for us 2 weeks back at Te Rapa, winning at $13, and has now won 3 out of the last 4, can go on with it today up in class and distance, Sam jumps back on.
BET: 5 units ew if the price is right, if the money comes 10 unit win
RIVERTON
Race 4: TYLER EIGHT won his first two before being edged out at Ascot Park last time, and should bounce back today as the odds-on fav.
BET: 10 unit win
FLEMINGTON
Race 2: Olly gave SWEET KAROLINA a sweet ride last time out, coming from the back to win at MV, no mean feat! Not much in the betting between the top four in this race, and the rise to 1400m should suit our girl…
BET: 5 units ew
Race 3: Here’s what we said about VARDANI last time out, and he was backed in from the initial $9.50 to win by 4 lengths at $3.50! Back up to BM70 today, but now he’s got his mojo back, he can go on with it… $8.50 on offer…
Flying under the radar is VARDANI, a former French gelding who won his first two races and headed over to Aus earlier this year. He’s been running without much glory at BM70 but dropped back to BM64 two weeks back and ran a tidy fifth here (see below. Could be today’s sleeper, and we’ve already noticed some money for him this morning. Around $9.50 at the mo, I’d get on early…

Race 4: CLEMENCEAU was super-impressive last time out at MV, and I have marked him down as “special”… McNeil sticks, and he’ll run fav today down the straight, could lead all the way…
BET: 6 unit win
Race 5: I just love BERMADEZ, he’s so honest, and won twice for us in the spring before getting beat by something special in Lighthouse, no disgrace there… Odds-on today as he jumps back up to the mile, Olly sticks, he wins…
BET: 10 unit win
Race 6: LOST IMPACT simply ran away with it at MV last time out, winning by 6 lengths, and moves back up to BM70 for this. $6 on offer, value bet in this.
BET: 4 units ew
Race 7: SMOKIN’ ROMANS is another high quality performer, stable has him running consistently well. Kah unbeaten on him, steps up to 2800m for the first time, and only second run at headquarters, but hard seeing him beaten. TIGERTIGER in the same race and has been a revelation this time in, not missing the frame in nine runs. Biggest test today, a ew is a good bet, and he’ll certainly spice up the exotics…
BET: SR 10 unit win, Tiger 3 units ew. Include both in exotics.
Race 8: LIGHTHOUSE is 3/3 since arriving from the States, beat Bermadez last time out, and surely wins again today, today’s beat-the-bank bet at $2.40…
BET: 10 unit win
RANDWICK KENSINGTON
Race 5: CELESTINE has switched stables since her last run 10 months ago, not had any trials but if she’s ready she’ll go close in this, watch the market.
BET: 3 units ew, if the money comes, 6 unit win.
PORT MACQUARIE
Race 6: COOL MISSILE hasn’t returned us a dividend in a while, but is another one worth a small punt ew. Up in distance today and may prefer better ground underfoot, but she’s 2/2 on this track…

INVERELL
Race 4: SPIRIT OF PLUTO caught the eye in June with a fast-finish for fourth, then obliged next time out at $8 before going for a spell. Looks like he needed the two runs back, but making headway. Up in distance today which should suit his race pattern, watch for him descending late. $3.20 fav at the mo…

Race 7: THE PHANTOM BANTAM ran on well last week, just missing a place for us at SP of $61. Worth another small investment today…
