Early heads-up for Wanganui, rest to follow!
Early heads-up for the first at Wanganui people, Intellectus yet to show much in two runs this prep, but gets his chance here…
Six of our ten tips paying a dividend yesterday, not a bad return!
Pride of place, and another Hall of Famer, goes to Oak Hill, back from the higher grade and with D Lane onboard. His win at the Valley in late November was impressive, not many come from the back and win on that very tight track, be he did it with some style. Didn’t get into the race next time out, and it looked like a similar story yesterday as he flopped out of the gates and straight to the back. However, we needn’t have worried as he blitzed home in the last 200m, winning at a very juicy $12.30/$3.30, a nice reward for our 4 units ew!
Seconds for Talk Time ($1.00), Protege ($2.10), thirds for Little Rich Boy ($1.40) and Rule of Time ($2.50) and a fourth for The First Link.
Ten more from the book for book, with some sure-fire winners and some interesting tips at odds, let’s dive in!
Thursday’s top ten…
Interllectus
Wanganui R1
Early heads-up for the first at Wanganui people, Interllectus yet to show much in two runs this prep, but gets his chance here…
BET: 2 units ew
Free Spirit
Wanganui R5
She returned from a 6 month break last month after finishing last prep with a couple of runs down the track, however, her previous form had been superb through the middle of last year, with three wins and a second from four runs, one of them at $17 for us. We thought it might be a tune-up for her over the too-short 1400m, and so it proved, though she wasn’t that far off the winner. Came out again here 12 days ago but faded in the heavy at the mile. Semi-decent stats, let;s hope she’s fitter for those two runs as she stretches out to the 2060m today, $26 on offer…
BET: 3 units ew
Cooper
Wanganui R7
Tried to lead all the way 14 days ago at Otaki and just failed to a $20 shot. Prefers it firm under foot, but Lisa sticks and he’s the $3.20 fav, chance to atone.
BET: 10 unit win
Phorcys
Kyneton R3
Perennial backmarker coming back to the 1454m today, will certainly need to be closer in the run to figure in this, $15 shot.
BET: 2 units ew
Dillinger
Kyneton R5
Noted when spruiked and backed in Jan 23, running fourth, duly obliged 2 weeks later then headed to the paddock for 205 days. Resumed with an ordinary seventh in Aug last year, then put away again until today.
BET: 10 unit win Has talent, may need the run and over longer but does get H Coffey onboard, EW shot at $6…
BET: 3 units ew
Shuri
Newcastle R6
Note in book on debut simply said BOOM! as she bolted in by over 4 lengths in October at Taree. Backed that up with another nicely timed run as fav here, and resumes from a 170 day spell. Trialled twice, Gibbons sticks, if you can get the $2.50 now, jump on…
BET: 10 unit win
Primo, Setteveli
Newcastle R7
Primo noted in October, devoid of a run before spelling. Came back six weeks ago with another fourth then got up at Kembla a month ago, Schiller’s only ride, and he put them away good style to clear maidens. Obviously harder here, but he can cope, $6 on offer.
Interestingly, Schiller hops onto our other one in this… Setteveli, part owned by a couple of our mates, kicked his career off in fine style with a win for us, but has been rather chequered since, and the two runs this time in have been disappointing. She does have a very good turn of foot, so we’ll be giving her another chance in this, $9.50 on offer.
BET: Back both 5 units ew, include in exotics
Scenic Rim
Warwick, R9
Huxtable got him to the front early at Gatton three weeks ago and saw it out as fav, and while this is up in grade and distance, he’s capable of the repeat, $10 on offer.
BET: 4 units ew
Kew Player
Pakenham R8
Resumed at Geelong four weeks ago and made some late headway into fifth at odds. Back in grade and up to 1200m is more suitable here today and could run a place based on that, $19.
