A scratching left us with five from the book yesterday, four of them making a place…
Effortkat ran second ($1.10), Mathew ran third ($1.60) with Mankayan and Tydeus running fourths…
Not a huge return, but we’re right around the mark.
Oaks Day today, and we’ve got 12 from the book and some nice odds on offer… Some double-ups, so beware!

Spruiked on debut at Kyneton in May and bolted home to win from dead last. Resumed from 150 days away a month ago at Bendigo and employed the same tactics in the BM64 and only just came up short. Moreira jumped on for Lane 14 days ago but left it far too late and ran another second. JMac jumps on for Waller, doubt he’ll make the same mistake as $2.40 fav.
BET: 10 unit win
Recommendation, Philosopher
Flemington R2
Recommendation back to his fav grade, and Shinn is 4:3-0 up top. The top three in this all raced in the Schillaci 26 days ago and there’s little between them betting-wise, $4 on offer.
Philosopher is usually up on the pace and rarely far off but goes round here as $34 outsider.

Autumn Storm, Matriarch Rose
Flemington R3
AS very gritty 15 days ago to win his second in a row. Up in grade and distance but Jye sticks and the rise to 2000m should suit, value at $16.
MR hasn’t really done much this prep, and while back in grade will need to lift somewhat, $41 on offer.

Mollynickers, Roots
Flemington R4
Mollynickers was scratched Tuesday, back in grade here and up to the mile should suit as she’s a perennial backmarker, $4.80 on offer.
Roots was ordinary 12 days ago at Randwick, she’s also back in grade and gets JMac up top, right in this at $5.

He’ll Rip

Huge finish for second under Billy at Geelong 15 days ago, we noted him as a next-timer and preferably over longer and the extra 100m should suit nicely here, though it is a big jump in grade for him… Billy sticks, watch for him late, $17 shot…

Bankers Choice
Flemington R9
Good record in the grade, though it’s nearly two years since he won. Gets B Shinn, but he’ll need him at $19…

Gawler R6
This is the easiest he’s contested for some while, gets the good ground he needs and gets Zac Lloyd up top, EW chance at $8.

Goldman, Rustic Steel
Hawkesbury R7
Goldman resumes in a far easier race than before his 145 day break, but the 1500m may be a touch on the short side, but he has won at that distance previously. Bayliss is 6:2-2 up top, he’s 5:2-2 first-up so don’t discard just yet, $15 on offer.
RS has done very little in recent runs but is also a big class dropper, his best would see him close but needs to lift, $16.
