Hall of Famer and some to watch!!

Our five tips from yesterday produced a Hall of Fame winner, a second, a fourth and two fifths…

Mathew (4 units ew) was the star of the show with a gritty win at a sumptuous $15.40/$3.80. Nolen had him handy in midfield, a little closer to the pace than normal over the reduced 1800m run, and produced him at the 300m mark to lead, only to be headed immediately by Star Vega, but he rallied in some style to get up close to the line.

In the same race, Rudhyar’s run suggested that he’s heading back towards some decent form, following up his last finish at Geelong in June with a strong run for fourth at big odds, keeping a watchful eye on him next time!

The consistent Fox Gem (5 units ew) got way out of his ground, as usual, and coming off the final bend, it looked as if he had enough in the tank to get up, but he just failed, running second at $1.80.

The two that ran fifth bear watching also, with Greyt Mumma again trying to lead all the way, just fading when it counted, may be better over shorter but she’s getting fitter…

Vasmee was resuming from a long break and ran very creditably seeing as he has no form either at the track or on soft, we’re watching, he’ll be at big odds again next time!

Eight from the book, including a couple of likely winners and some nice EW prospects…

Eight’s enough for Thursday…

Casino Princess

Rotorua R3

Our mole says the stable are keen, and rightly so… Denied the hat-trick last Saturday when the meeting here was abandoned but looks set to complete it here as $1.75 fav, even though she’s up in weight a touch, but down in grade.

BET: 10 unit win

Jack In The Box, Queen Sarabi

Rotorua R7

JITB was elevated to fav status at Wanganui 14 days ago, after some pretty ordinary form prior, and never looked like getting beat as he duly strolled home, enjoying the heavy conditions. Will need to be at his best to knock off this fav but may have turned the corner, $4.60 on offer.

QS has shown her best form on heavy too, but hasn’t shown much since her last win in September last year, $23 at the mo.

BET: JITB 5 units ew, QS 2 units ew

Free Spirit

Awapuni Synthetic R4

Decent T&Ds here, drops in grade and has performed well at this level previously. Lisa sticks despite the mare’s ordinary form this prep. Keep safe, $6 on offer.

BET: 4 units ew

Luxuriant

Awapuni Synthetic R6

She’s in superb form, winning three of her last four. Judging by her finishes, the rise to 1400m should not be a problem and she’s 3:2-1 at the track. Lisa replaces Wazza, $4 second fav in a small field, still think she wins this…

BET: 10 unit win

Fighting Arrow

Bendigo R7

Jumped out last and stayed there 22 days ago at Sandown, his race pattern for his last four runs, so he needs to improve somewhat to feature as a $31 shot in this.

BET: 2 units ew

Cool Lad

Wyong R6

He’s been pretty consistent without winning and drops in grade here at his fav distance. Jay Ford is 1:1 onboard, he’s $10 in a very open betting race, EW for sure…

BET: 4 units ew

Remus

Wyong R8

Dominant win at $41 for us three back at Gosford at this grade before stepping up to a Midway at Randwick at similar odds and running a respectable sixth, then another sixth a month ago at Hawkesbury where he was prominent but faded late. Has won at the mile but may be better suited back in distance a bit, but not out of this at $26.

BET: 3 units ew
