Two bangers and a second… so close!!
We bounced back with a bang yesterday, just a smidgeon away from a memorable trixie at Timaru…
Infernape got us off to a great start in the second, booting home for us at a juicy $8.90/$3.00, great return for our 5 units ew and anchoring us to a share in the $2355 trifecta.
Then in race 4, Vindicator (5 units ew) swept up to get home at $7.20/$2.20 and a $557 trifecta…
Brancaster Bomber (5 units ew) just got collared late, paying $1.60 the place, but still a nice return for our trixie, and not far from a big payout had he won.
Big day of racing on Anzac Day, and we have 14 from the book, let’s have a look!!

His second on debut caught the eye, hasn’t really followed up on that in six runs. Gets Lisa today but may prefer it softer, $11 on offer.

Nice win on debut and some good runs up in grade since. Resumed a month ago with a close second, and we were pretty keen on him 12 days ago here but he got bogged down to run fifth but not far off. Tackles firm going for the first time today, but does get J Riddell up top. Tight betting race, with less than $9 between the fav and the outsider, he’s a shot at $11…

Otaki, 6
He’s a big unit, noted winning at Wanganui in December. Has been racing in higher grades and drops back to the BM65 today under Lisa, and he’ll appreciate the firmer ground too, and rocks up here as $2.40 fav, well drawn and looks the winner…

DARK DESTROYER

Not doing enough lately, Weatherley jumps back on for Dad, he’s 9:4-2 onboard and is also a class-dropper. EW best in this at $19…

PEACE TREATY, PONDALOWIE
Flemington, 1
PT won 3 of her first 4 and pretty impressive in doing so. Resumed after a break last month in Open grades without threatening, drops back to the 1100m today and needs to be up on pace. $4 fav in another even betting race.
Pondalowie led and won on debut in September then went on a break. Resumed in Feb with a fifth and a third, fitter now, and still in this at $7.

YALDI
Flemington, 5
Spruiked and back into odds-on fav on debut at Pukekohe 19 days ago after winning 3 from 3 trials, and he got to the front early and simply cruised home. Straight over to Aussie to contest this Listed race at HQ today, jumps to 1400m and he’s one of the five close favs in a tight betting event. Easy EW punt at $5.

REMUS
Gosford, 7
Inconsistent but throws in the odd good race, especially when dropping back to this grade… EW shot in this at $13.

RAMONES, COOL LAD
Gosford, 8
Ramones is a perennial frontrunner, more suited back to the 1100m here where’s he’s 7:1-4, and he gets a jockey upgrade in Jeff Penza here. If he gets away sharpish, he can give them something to catch at $21…
CL hit a purple patch mid last year but fell away a touch when up in grade. Resumes from a 175 day spell, no great first-up form but could run a pace at $13.
BET: Both 3 units ew, could fill out the exotics
VALIEVA
Gawler, 2
Huge run from dead last on debut last July, suggesting a win wasn’t far off, but three subsequent runs only produced a fourth when racing here in October. Resumed with a fast-finishing third here 15 days ago, and duly noted as a next-timer. Pannell jumps on, looks ready to shed the maiden tag today if she travels a little closer to the pace, $4.80 on offer, get onboard!

He’s been thereabouts this prep but just didn’t get across from the wide draw 11 days ago at Bordertown. Great T&D stats for this and fav jock back onboard, easy EW punt at $6.
