A late scratching left us with just the four yesterday, but it was one of those days, and the closest we got was a fifth… one to forget, so we move on…

A much-improved run 14 days ago at Kyneton when he scooted home late along the rails for a close fourth at odds, suggesting that maybe a longer trip would suit next up. Presents again over the same trip today, Jake Duffy sticks up top and if he can get him somewhere closer in the run from the carpark draw, he just might drop in late. $21 on offer, might be the day, sleeper…

Baraqiel was spruiked and backed on debut at Sale 18 days ago, and he delivered in great style, stretching out to an easy 4 length win under Benny Allen. Up to a CL1 race here, out to 1200m, jockey sticks, and he’s $1.40 fav, wins again.
Matawai is a former Kiwi filly, noted winning on debit at Taupo in September before heading instantly off to Aus to run in a G2 at Caulfield in October. Has talent and returns today from the 215 day break with B Shinn onboard, only threat to the fav, $5.50 in a small field.

Went in the book with his last win almost two years ago, but he does tend to mix ‘em up a bit… He’s been going round between 1400m and 2580m, and pops up here over the mile. His racing pattern is similarly random, as is his preferences for the going, so it’s hard to pin down just what, when and where his winning chances are. $61 on offer here, chances are the only “auf weidersehen” you’ll be saying is to your stake money!!
