Two winners and a second…
Decent return from yesterday’s four races…
Alabama Lass won as expected, $1.70, bound for better things…
Trobriand was back in grade hugely on resuming and got up for us at $5.60/$1.80.
We were looking for Eye Pea Oh to be ridden a touch more conservatively after fading late in her last two runs, but they may have over-compensated as she was near-last approaching the turn, then bolted home for second, paying $2.40 the place. Certainly marked down for next time…
Our insider tip in Mr Vivaci was disappointing after his debut second. Backed in to fav, they settled him just where he wanted to be in about fourth, but he drifted a bit and was too far off to be effective on the run-in. Just waiting on the post-race report, we haven’t sacked him yet…

Our insider tip resumed 15 days ago at Canterbury and was disappointing. He’s had five starts now, the previous one on Boxing Day, so resumed after a 225 days break after having a bone chip in a knee removed. Choccy had trialled up nicely and had made progress during the break, but came out last and stayed there. Doesn’t really like it soft and gets firmer ground today, so rates a chance at $8.

Bourbon Road, Bold Response

BB is a former Kiwi who hasn’t quite lived up to his NZ form in Aus, but ran a far better race 21 days ago at Cranbourne, second-up after a 249 day break. Will be fitter for those two runs, gets Celine up top and rates a super EW bet at $7.50 in this.
BR is a perennial frontrunner who’s struggling to finish off his races this prep, as was the case 8 days ago at Sandown. Has the talent, maybe needs to be ridden back a bit, save something for the run-in. Gets the apprentice up top today, can figure in the finish at $6.

Won 3 of her first 4 and pretty impressive in doing so, before three runs for midfield finishes, but not far off the winner. Resumes after a four month break without trialling, the 1000m might be a touch sharp for her, but she’s a talented mare, and she’s $3 fav with B Shinn up top, which speaks volumes…
BET: 10 unit win
Highground
Mackay R5
Been running in the picnics recently, with a second and a win in a couple of small fields, but never got into the race at Blackall a month ago. Steps up at Mackay today, but down in grade, chance if he jumps well at $14.

Another on-pacer, bit inconsistent but should go better on the firmer track today, chance at $14.

Winning Aces

Couple of smart runs to start this prep, both with fast finishes, producing a fourth and a win at big odds. Couldn’t keep that momentum going 22 days ago at Belmont but rates an EW chance here with his fav jockey back up top. $12 on offer, watch for him late!
