Sunday 7th July 2024
Two winners and plenty of placings…
Our 25 tips were whittled down to 22 with the abandonment of the Sunshine Coast meeting, where we were particularly keen on The Inevitable. Those races will be run next Sunday, so all is not lost…
That left us with two winners, a second, four thirds and two fourths, just over 40% with a return on our investments…
Wins for former Kiwi Cindy Falls (5 units ew), producing an astonishing finish from dead last on the turn, in only her second Aussie race, to get up and win for us at $7.50/$2.50.
The other win booted the day off nicely for us, with Interllectus (10 unit win) producing a gritty finish to hold on, paying $3.
Places for Rise At Dawn ($1.60), Miss Jennifer ($3.80), Ang Pow ($2.20), Gospodin ($1.55) and Sir Diamond.
Fourths for Festival Prince and Shore To Happen.
Seven for Sunday, and some tempting odds!
Sunday Seven
Night Fighter
Grafton R4
Cleared maidens at his second attempt in Jan before two big finishes for third within a month before heading to the paddock for 4 months. Resumed a month ago needing the run, then finished well two weeks ago for fifth. Progressing OK this prep and can figure in this open betting race, just the heavy a question in his first go on it… Watch for him late, the extra 200m should suit, $9 on offer.

Sir Boo
Grafton R5
His T&Ds are excellent, as is his first-up form, plus he gets Ben Looker up top, which is enough for me… Gets back, but another who’ll be descending on them late, $9.50 sounds very tempting…

Such A Whit
Townsville R3
Fav in this looks home and hosed, so looks like a battle for second, with our lad on the 3 day back-up and paying $7. Hard to see where the value is in this, he does tend to mix his form, so the $2.10 place might be the go…
BET: 3 units ew
Focus
Townsville R4
Another with impressive stats, but there’s plenty with those in this race. Hasn’t missed top four in seven runs, $26 on offer today, so EW.
BET: 3 units ew
Galenus, Ziavera
Hobart R8
Galenus seems to be in a good-bad sequence, so looks like today is good! On-pacer with great stats (it is Tassie after all…) so EW for him at $7, especially with D Pires up top.
Ziavera is almost two years without a win, with a couple of long spells in the paddock during that time. Hard to see that changing for her in this as a $151 shot…
BET: Galenus 5 units ew, Ziavera 2 units ew
Fiendish
Kalgoorlie R5
Resumed at big odds 21 days ago and ran a close third for us, paying $5.10 the place. Has second-up form and plenty of experience at this track. Another get-back type who’ll be finishing on late, $23 on offer…
