4-3-2-1
Four winners, three seconds, two thirds and a fourth for us yesterday…
Crocetti (10 unit win) looked unbeatable at the $1.50 being offered, but Master Fay did his best, only missing by the smallest of margins, which got us the $2.50 Exacta.
Former HK racehorse Double Take (5 units ew) rediscovered his form with a nice win in the last, paying $4.50/$1.90.
Rise At Dawn (8 unit win) is a real on-pacer and Stackhouse produced a superb finish as he powered home to win at $3.40.
And another superb finish from Fox Gem (5 units ew) on the 10 day back-up, we fancied him up to the 2500m and he produced his usual trick to get up in a blanket finish at $4.80/$1.70.
Places for Lord Spencer ($2.10), Shuri ($1.10), Berkshire Breeze ($1.20, how did he get beat?), Secret Location ($2.50) and Fortified ($2.00), with Pioneer River running fourth, all in all a 40% strike rate for the day…
Ten from the book on a busier than usual Sunday, let’s have a look!!
Sunday’s Top Ten…
Fleming
Hawera R5
Early career form was very good, had some issues and returned at Hastings last month needing the run, then ran a decent fourth here 12 days ago which put him on our radar, don’t be surprised if he’s in the finish today, $4.60 in this small field, though the fav has been racing in Aussie in much harder grades.
BET: 8 unit win
Boy
Hawera R6
Spruiked and well-supported on debut in Jan, last out the gates and finished fast for second before a close fifth at Trentham and a closer second next up before heading to the paddock. Resumed after 85 day break in May needing the run, and resumes from another 85 day spell after winning a trial last week at Foxton. Think he’s ready to fire today with Lisa up top, $3.30 fav.
BET: 8 unit win
Five Bells
Hawera R8
Caught the eye when steaming home for fourth at Otaki 8 days ago earning a next-time sticker, and here she is, $6 on offer, EW all day…

Point Nepean
Sandown R3
He was highly spruiked up on his return from a 10 month break two weeks ago, debuting over hurdles, and duly obliged at $2.25 winning by 12 lengths. Second fav here in a small race with a few chances, $3.40 on offer.
BET: 8 unit win
Scissor Step
Sandown R6
Been running in Saturday metro company and the jump to BM84 proved too big a leap for him 8 days ago and he’s far more suited in this grade and staying at the 1400m as he possesses a decent finish in him. Watch for him late, solid EW punt at $12.
BET: 4 units ew
Miss Jennifer
Forbes R4
Another who’s been racing on Saturdays this prep and has a decent finish in here. This is up a grade, but fancy she’ll be right in the finish if she can settle closer in the run. $2.80 fav.
BET: 8 unit win
Sapphires Son
Forbes R6
Ran a class record at Quirindi almost a year ago but hasn’t approached that sort of form since, apart from a second at Goulburn in June. Back up to the 1400m today which may help, EW shot at $19.
BET: 3 units ew
Red Hawk
Wodonga R6
His career has been full of stop-starts, and both rides resuming this prep featured him slow out of the gates and steaming home for third and fourth. Next two were disappointing, drawn the carpark in this, so will need to get away well to figure, but chance at his best at $8.50.
BET: 3 units ew
Ghost Doctor
Wodonga R8
Improved run for the seasoned gelding when resuming in June at Bendigo with a second placing in a big field, running on well over the 1100m, and hasn’t been far off in the next two runs. Up in grade but the extra distance will suit, watch for him late, $14 on offer.
BET: 3 units ew
Blazing Tycoon
Carnarvon R3
Did little on resuming 15 days ago. Habitually gets back and finishes on late. Drops in grade a touch and this is here distance, so maybe a place at $8.50.
