SIX of the best winners on a tremendous day of racing yesterday!
We banged out an early treble, with three winners in a row at Ellerslie in Marengo (8 unit win, $2.30), Puketiro (10 unit win, $3.20) and Belclare 2 units ew, $4.90).
We thought Rule of Time might need the resuming run but she cruised home under Linda Meech in a small field at a very nice $9.50.
Over at Rosehill, former NZer Gringotts (10 unit win) got up to seal the qadi for us, paying $3.30, and anchoring the tri and the first four for us.
But the run of the day undoubtedly belonged to He’s Our Bonneval (3 units ew), who produced a thrilling run between horses to get up late at $13.00/$3.90, and anchored us into the $3K qadi!
Some nice odd placings for Timeonlees (5 units ew, $2.00), Saloon Bar (4 units ew, $3.50), Roots (3 units ew, $3.50), and we even stayed up for the last race at Ascot to watch $71 shot Blazing Tycoon do his usual late appearance at the finish, getting up for third paying $11 – 50 metres more and he’d have won!!
Altogether a great day for us, with a 21% winning strike rate and a 36% return rate, and a couple of Hall of Famers!!
Three from the book on a saner Easter Sunday, on the face of it the good, the bad and the ugly, so maybe a cheeky little EW trixie if you’re still carrying from yesterday’s big wins!!

This is an interesting runner, former Kiwi who raced just five times over here, well-supported each time, noted on his last run at Tauranga in October getting way to way back, tailed off last and game home with a wet sail to run a close second. Now he pops up in Aus after a 165 day spell, drops back from the mile to the 1300m and may need the run, but would pay to watch the betting and keep him safe. $5.50 at the moment, so some early support for him, and Child is a nice booking up top…

He’s a puzzler this lad, placed in a G3 in his career, but only one win in his last twenty and two overall, the last one a year ago. Resumed a month ago after a hefty spell, running next to last at Moruya, but he has won here on his only visit and has won second-up. Jeff Penza sticks on this perennial backmarker, winkers go on, so watch for him late, $7.50 on offer…
