A big winner and lots of placings…
Lots of posts hit, and just the one winner, but, boy, was it worth it!
Former Hong Kong galloper Not Ideal returned to NZ three weeks ago with an eye-catching second, which we marked him down as a next-timer, and he duly obliged at $6.00/$2.40. We anchored him in the tri and the first four, which paid $565 and $3116 respectively for a huge return on the win.
Places for Lord Spencer ($2.10), Cause For Concern ($1.90), Red Hawk ($2.20), Such A Whit ($2.10), De Sonic Boom ($2.80) and Brazen Breccia ($4.00), and a host of fourths in Super Pursuit, Desert Icon, Fortified, Kasinova Kid and Zou Zou Kacanarkis.
Scratchings overnight have reduced our tips today to just seven, but some good odds on offer…
Sunday’s Magnificent Seven…
MOUNT STEWART
Warrnambool, 2
Interesting runner, former Irish galloper noted in his first run in Aus in Aug 21, coming for the back to win nicely after being well-supported in a BM78. Then ran down the track in a hurdle event before heading for the paddock for 21 months. Reappeared 16 days ago on the flat at Geelong where he beat one home, but he’s back over the hurdles today and back up to the 2 miles, Rawiller onboard an indicator that he could be ready for this at $7…

IMPULSAR
Warrnambool, 3
Another former UK horse who won as he liked as expected here on resumption in May but only plugged at Sandown after that. Prepared to forgive him that aberration, he’s with a hot stable and expect him to win this as $2.60 fav.
BET: 10 unit win
KNIFE’S EDGE, WILD ROCKET
Mudgee, 6
KE was noted bolting in at Newcastle in November and winning again the following month. Couple of other runs a bit so-so, but he goes best under Michaela Weir, who jumps back onboard today as he resumes after 4 months off. And that’s his strong point, he’s 6:2-3 first-up and 4:1-2 on heavy, and though up in grade from his last run, he has won at this grade, which make him today’s sleeper at $9. WR won for us in Jan, but not going well enough to trouble these as $34 outsider, interest only…

PEPPER’S GHOST
Grafton, 6
We were pretty confident he’d run a place at least last time, but he dropped out at the end. Back up to Open grade where he won well for us on the pace the race before, but backs up today after just 4 days, so connections must be keen. EW at $5.50.

SIR DIAMOND

Not really going well enough, interest only at $10.
