Four Star Saturday!
Not quite a repeat of Fridays’ Five Star performance, but Four Star ain’t bad, plus two seconds, two thirds and three fourths!!
I Am Velvet (10 unit win) got us off to a grand start at $3.40 in the first at Caulfield, and we also snagged the quinella (10 units), paying $1.90.
Further down the card at Caulfield and as expected Recommendation (10 unit win) put them to the sword in the Bletchingly under Shinn at a lean $1.30, but he’s bound for bigger things, while Marble Nine ran third at $1.45.
And in the next race there, a Hall of Fame win for Showmanship, we spruiked him up even after three ordinary runs this prep, and back on firmer ground we duly obliged under Lane at a very juicy $19.50/$3.90 to remain unbeaten in six races on that going, and also helping us to the qadi!
Over at Morphettville, Sachem (10 unit win) finally obliged after threatening for a while, with a huge 6.25 length win under Kah at $1.30.
Places for Festival Prince ($2.80), Wango Award ($3.10), and Saloon Bar ($2.45), plus fourths for Amarantz, Storm de Lune and Rose Noir, who just got too far back and steamed home late… Next time for sure…

Thought he’d go better 13 days ago at Pak but despite getting to the front early, he couldn’t see it through and ran next to last in a race won by our $19 shot in Royal Fox. Back on his fav track (3:1-2) and is OK on heavy (4:1-1) but needs to improve, $7 on offer.

Consistent, and goes better when on-pace as per 24 days ago here when just weakening late to fourth, but rate him a chance in this close betting race as $3.90 second fav.

Early career form was promising but has obviously had some issues. Returned from a 434 day lay-off 24 days ago, and they fancied him as he ran as favourite, finishing on late into fifth. Will have taken benefit from that run for sure, and his second-up form is sound (3:1-1). This is an easier grade than he was going round in prior to the break, will need to be spot-on to beat this hotpot fav, but EW looks the go at $11.

Mixes his performances but capable on his day and gets D Pires on top, which enhances his claims in this. Stats are great, but this is Tassie, open betting race so EW at $7.50

Won two in a row this week last year, and we noted that he was “above average”, though subsequent form doesn’t quite bear that out… Resumes from a 184 day spell, has trialled twice, but has no first-up form but has form at the distance. $26 at the mo, so EW best today…
