Sunday 23rd July 2023

Two winners and a 28% return rate…

Couldn’t quite make that trifecta work again, as Zeefa Zed (5 units ew) ran second at $1.90 with a good effort from Kusuda to run fourth.

Winners in Cork (5 units ew, $5.60/$1.80) and Teewaters (6 unit win, $4.60).

Further placings for Tidal Rush (2 units ew, a colossal $7.90 the place!), General Beau (3 units ew, $1.70), He’s Our Bonneval (5 units ew, $1.60), and Namazu, who led every inch of the way bar the last inch…

Our insider bets in Le Chocolate and Millefiori both ran fourth, the former again prominent as in his debut run for fourth, still reefing and pulling, and he may be off for a little boy’s operation, but he has a big motor, so we;ll be keeping an eye on him.

Millefiori’s run was disappointing, after a great win for us last wee. Back on her favoured home track, she dropped out the back, way too far off the leaders, and steamed home when it was all over.

Sweysive also ran home for fourth at big odds.

A 28% return rate on our 25 tips…

A much busier Sunday than usual, with 11 from the book despite losing four of them with Oamaru abandoned and a few Aussie scratchings, let’s see what’s left…

Sunday’s starting eleven…

AUF WEIDERSEHEN

Sale, 6

Got himself on the watchlist with a sustained run at Moe 17 days ago. Doesn’t mind the give in the ground, and worth an EW go at $18.

BET: 3 units ew

COOL LAD, DEVINE MISS

Nowra, 5

CL won well two back, and we expected him to repeat the dose at Kembla. Finished late for third and presents here as co-fav at $3.20 in a small field. Having said that, Devine Miss caught the eye with a huge finish for fourth at big odds. Can’t discount her at $7.50.

BET: Small field, can back both to win, but maybe focus on the exotics, quinella and tri…

MOON OVER ALICE, SAVVY LAD

Coffs Harbour, 6

Perennial frontrunner who may be better suited to the shorter journey, but steps back up to the 1515m today. Be a feather in our cap if she got up at $126. Savvy Lad improved significantly a week ago at Grafton to run third at $9.60. EW shot here at $8.

BET: Can back both 2 units ew, would spice up the exotics…

THE AWESOME SON

Casterton, 2

Interesting assignment for him as he comes back to country level to make his hurdling debut. Has had a couple of trials to prepare, and the rise to the 3500m should work in his favour as a regular backmarker. $4.60 on offer.

BET: 5 units ew

CORNELIAN BAY

Launceston, 5

Back from a two month break, his two wins last prep were impressive as he cruised up from the back to win easily. 4 from 4 at this distance, 3 from 3 first up, and Pires has won on him previously. Up in grade, and most of his wins on AWT, so if he handles those changes today, he’ll be hard to beat as $3.30 fav

BET: 10 unit win

SIR SIMON

Launceston, 7

Not shown much recently, but his stats are top notch… T&D, first-up, jockey and soft going all impressive… Sleeper at $10.

BET: 5 units ew

ZIAVERA

Launceston, 8

Been going round at big odds, hard to enthuse at $15…

BET: 2 units ew

MINGORA, FIENDISH

Kalgoorlie, 5

Mingora back up after 6 months, may need the run as her second-up form is better. $4.60 on offer. Fiendish is another backmarker capable of a big finish, but will need to be closer in the run as a $16 shot.

BET: Both 3 units ew, exotics?
