One winner and ten placings…
Strange day of racing, with three meetings abandoned, most disappointingly Ellerslie, and many scratchings due to heavy rain, reducing us down from 35 to 29 tips.
Wins were hard to come by, with many of our best bets not even getting on track.
The lone winner came from Foxy Femme (5 units ew) who got up by a head at $4.70/$2.00.
However, there was a whole raft of placings at good odds:
Millefiori ($3.10), Regal Lion ($1.80), Talk Time ($1.80), Ang Pow ($2.60), Star of Chaos ($2.30), Enterprise Pomme ($4.70), Kattegat ($4.50), and Goldman ($2.50), with Mankayan running fourth, that’s 35% of our tips providing a dividend.
A busy Sunday, with 13 from the book, let’s have a look…
13 on a busy Sunday…
INTERLLECTUS
Hawera, 2
On the quick backup from Thursday on the flat, certainly better with jumps in front of him and can win this, $3.30 second fav in a small field.
BET: 8 unit win
LORD SPENCER
Hawera, 6
Noted last June on his hurdling debut and hasn’t missed the frame since in four runs before heading to the paddock. Resumes today after 253 days, ran in a trial three weeks without completing it. Some reasonable stats, may need the run, $26 on offer.
BET: 3 units ew
ARALETTA
Bendigo, 4
This is an interesting runner, spotted her after a trial at Pak last week, with trainer Peter Moody spruiking her up, suggesting she was gonna break maidens soon, rating her as a city class filly. She’s $2.50 second fav in what looks like a race in two.
BET: 10 unit win based on Moody’s assessment…
GOLD TRACKER
Wagga, 4
Went in the book in October via an astonishing win from dead last after dropping out early as fav. Bolted home late to win by 3 lengths and has won and placed twice for us again since. Resumed with a third at Wagga six weeks ago then and has ran a couple of sixths since at big odds. Backing up quickly from six days ago, up in grade and distance so watch for him late, $14 on offer.
BET: 3 units ew
CANNY HELL, REAL GUN
Wagga, 7
CH resumed from a long break with two on-pace wins here in Jan/Feb, but the rise to 1400m and up in grade was his undoing 21 days mid-Feb and also three weeks later in the Canberra Guineas, but no disgrace in either run. Back in grade a month back and gave them something to chase and he won nicely for us. Drops to the 1200m today, and if he jumps OK, which he usually does, he’s gonna be real hard to catch, $2.50 fav, think he wins this…
RG is on the six day backup, last two runs were at big odds and way up in grade from his normal level, and his previous form was good, with 4 wins in 6 races. Souquet is a nice booking, and he’s the value runner at $26.
BET: CH 10 unit win, BG 4 units ew, include both in exotics.
SAPPHIRES SON
Muswellbrook, 5
Ran a class record at Quirindi last August but done little in four runs since. EW shot at $14.
BET: 2 units ew
MARKWELL DREAMER, POLYLITHIC
Muswellbrook, 6
MD had been pretty consistent last year before heading to the paddock. Hasn’t been far away in three efforts this prep, has gone OK on heavy previously and Bullock is 5:0-3 onboard. Can feature late if they sit him a bit closer to the speed, EW at $6.
Polylithic won three in a row for us in Jan before hopping up in grade. T&Ds OK here but untried on heavy, $21 shot.
BET: MD 3 units ew, P 2 units ew
SEIRYU, TABULAM
Sunshine Coast, 8
Close betting race with our two sitting at co-favs around the $4.50 mark. Seiryu resumes after 3 months, ran a first and five thirds in his last six races last prep. Trialled up a couple of times but has no first-up form to speak of. Tabulam ran an improved race at Toowoomba a month back when back in grade and drops a touch again today. Mallyon booked, so rates a chance.
BET: Can back both 4 units ew, exotics
ZIAVERA
Hobart, 8
She’s the $71 outsider in this, last win was 20 months ago, needs to improve to feature here…
BET: 2 units ew
PROTEGE
Pinjarra, 7
Noted on debut in August 22 with a brilliant win at Belmont before failing two weeks later and leading to the paddock. Resumed after 410 days with close finishes in two runs in Oct/Nov last year, then put away again. Resumes today, Holly Watson sticks, $3.80 fav and if she’s ready, she’ll go close, but will need to get past this hotpot fav.
BET: 8 unit win
