Two Hall of Famers…
Some hideous watches yesterday left us scratching our heads somewhat, but still managed a couple of Hall of Famers…
The day started so promisingly, with War Of Succession winning the second at Ellerslie at a whopping $13 then descending into farce as some of our more fancied runners failed badly, getting so far back early in the race as to having no chance in featuring…
We also had four seconds, five thirds and a fourth, the most distinctive placing being Glentaneous reversing his poor form to run second paying an amazing $20.60 the place, with the exotics paying $1345 for the quinella and $162K for the trifecta, though in all honesty, I’m not sure could have picked those!!
Two here from NZ and 12 from Aussie to come, let’s dive in!!
NZ today
Inmyshadow
Hawera R2
Long time between drinks for this lad, resumed with a ninth last month for the new yard, needs to improve, $12 shot…

Lurch
Hawera R4
Resumes from a 273 day spell, was a huge $20 winner for us this time last year before failing twice in BM65 races. Very interested to see how he goes in this, though suspect this may be a tad short for him on what looks like a tune-up, but keeping safe at $16.

Aussie today
Teewaters
Casterton R1
Third go over hurdles but well beaten last time, maybe a place at $11…

Deeling Aces
Casterton R6
Unbeaten in two races in late 2023, massively impressive from the back in both runs but obviously picked up a problem at some point as she returned 17 days ago from a huge 499 day break and never featured. Better than that, and another to keep safe at $9.

Bifrost
Casterton R7
Ex-NZ, bit hard to catch, goes OK at this distance and Jonny Allen sticks, second fav at $4.80, EW for sure…

Tikemyson
Casterton R8
Another ex Kiwi having his second run in Aussie after running last of six at the Bool on debut there. Had some good form here before he went, presuming he’ll strip a bit fitter for this one, $11 on offer.

Splash Landing
Strathalbyn R5
Not far off in first two runs since resuming, tends to get back a bit then did nothing in early May running near-last at Murwillumbah. Her one win came under J Potter and he was back onboard 16 days ago with a fast-finishing fourth and marked down as next-time. Potter sticks, gets the extra distance and gets the softer ground she prefers, she’s a real prospect as the $4.40 fav here…

Thoros Of Myr
Devonport Synthetic R6
Resumed from 322 day spell here 14 days ago, thought we had a winner but I’ve rarely seen a horse in the lead 100 metres out and run second last. That will have done him the world of good and we next-timed him after that first-up effort, and he presents here as a $5.50 shot, EW for sure…

Cornelian Bay
Devonport Synthetic R7
Back from a 3 months break, he’s 7:3-2 first-up and Pires won a trial on him recently so must be considered. Great T&Ds, $3.90 second fav.

Kattegat
Parkes R6
Effective at this distance and on soft going… Hard to catch but rates an EW shot at $19.
BET: 3 units ew
Jalmari
Sapphire Coast R7
Also hard to catch, resumes after just over a year away but this looks a little short for him. $14 on offer.
BET: 2 units ew
Snakerattle’n’roll
Kalgoorlie R3
Caught the eye in March with a huge run from last to run a close fourth over 1200m, and we tagged him as a next timer especially over longer but he didn’t emerge from the pack at Geelong and Seymour in two runs since. Prefer over longer, $4.80 second fav.
BET: 4 units ew
Fiendish
Kalgoorlie R5
Two wins from 36 runs, needs to lift somewhat to figure, $16 shot.
BET: 2 units ew
I Never Dreamed
Kalgoorlie R7
A close third and a fourth resuming this prep and she’s ready to win here, $4.20 fav in an open betting race.
