43% return on a bad day for NZ racing…
Half a dozen scratchings yesterday, on a day of pure farce for NZ racing…
Total débâcle in the so-called G1 TAB Classic at Trentham, where the add-on gates failed to open, and the bulk of the field ran almost a quarter of the race before it was called up as a false start. Money immediately piled on the three horses that were left in the gates, and they duly ran 1st, 2nd and 4th. Totally embarrassing for the sport, I think NZTAB should reimburse all losing bets…
From our remaining 23 tips, we managed two winners, four seconds, three third and two fourths, a 43% frame rate.
Winners were Recommendation (5 units ew, $5.60/$2.20) and Alluvial (5 units ew, $3.80/$1.20).
Places for Ess Vee Are ($2.60), Adam I Am ($1.00, butchered) Poetic Champion ($1.80), Midnight In Tokyo ($2.20), Fighting Arrow ($6.30, wow!) and Shamus (ND), and a couple of fourths in Aegon and En Francais.

Placed in two of his three runs this prep, though the fail was at the mile, but he has run well at that distance previously, so maybe a blip. Gibbons has five placings form seven rides on him and sticks today. Open betting race, easy EW at $5.50.

One placing from ten doesn’t seem to be winning form, but he’ll have taken benefit from the resuming run 18 days ago here and the tidy apprentice sticks. Can figure in this at a juicy $21…

She hasn’t been too far off in her four runs this prep, and back up to the mile suits. Back from a BM78 last run, Thornton sticks, and she’s another good EW punt today at $5.50.

We spruiked her up to shed the maiden tag 15 days ago at Toowoomba after a couple of good thirds, and she duly obliged with a dominant win. Now she’s got the idea, she can push on, winning jock sticks again, EW at $8.

He couldn’t match the previous BM64 win at Pak last time out at Cranbourne, but drops back to the BM64 today from city racing, and must rate here as $3.70 second fav.
