Super place odds…
Two seconds and a third at super odds yesterday…
Wailua ($3.20), General Beau ($3.50, just missed!) and Social Conscience ($3.50) provided ample proof that we pick the big odds payers!
Huge day of racing today, and we’ve got 10 from the book in NZ, with 18 from Aussie, let’s jump into NZ first!!
NZ on Saturday…
MARENGO
Ellerslie, 4
Has found one better in all four runs this prep, hope he’s not got runners-up syndrome… Fav again today at $2.70, will be thereabouts again no doubt…
BET: 8 unit win
PUKETIRO
Ellerslie, 5
Didn’t back her super resuming win in Sept, so went to the paddock and resumes today after 144 days. 2:2 record first-up, same at the distance, and gets Opie onboard, who’s also 2:2. Starts as $3.30 fav, I think she wins this…
BET: 10 unit win
PEARL OF ALSACE, BELCLARE, KARMAN LINE
Ellerslie, 6
Pearl fronts up as fav in the Breeders, showed she was in fine fettle on resuming at this T&D three weeks ago, and looks ready to step up the G1 today. $3.30 on offer, 5 wins from 7 at this distance, wins for me.
Belclare ($6) and Karman Line ($21) both capable of placing.
BET: Pearl 10 unit win, other two 2 units ew, include in exotics with Pearl to win.
LET FLY
Ellerslie, 7
Noted in Nov when blocked for a run and a cert beaten. Since then has won and placed in all four races, including last two here at odds for us. Up in grade and distance but gets Cameron up top, watch for her late, value runner at $10 in a very open betting event…
BET: 5 units ew
THE GREY GOOSE
Riverton, 7
Won as she liked a month ago at Wingatui after a big win at Ascot Park previously. Bigger test but looks like she’s up for it, $3.80 second fav.
BET: 8 unit win
CAPO DELL IMPERO, LOCHNABERRY
Riverton, 8
CDI dots his wins about a bit, but more than capable on his day and can feature in this at $5. Lochnaberry won the Invercargill Cup with a leg in the air, would certainly not discount her in this at $13, value bet.
BET: Both 4 units ew, include in exotics
LA OPCION
Riverton, 9
One win in her last 20 isn’t very confidence building. Has won on heavy and Tina sticks, but still only an EW bet at $15…
BET: 3 units ew
Aussie on Saturday…
GIRL
Flemington, 1
Like the way she’s won both runs for us this prep, jumping up to the BM70 at MV 22 days ago. This is another step up, she’s an on-pacer and can give them something to catch back at the 1100m. $10 on offer.
BET: 4 units ew
SCISSOR STEP, REAL GUN
Flemington, 2
SS’s very good early career form includes a G3 placing but obviously had some issues with a couple of spells in the paddock, this last one a 235 day break. Easiest grade he contested for some time 24 days ago, and produced a super finish under Jaylah to win at Sandown. This is stronger, but he’s no doubt taken something from that one run, and $23 looks outrageous, worth a Bonus Bet punt at that.
RG also resumed with a win in the same grade after a two month break, he’s got some talent and can also feature, $41 on offer…
BET: Both 3 units ew, exotics including hotpot fav…
GLENTANEOUS, MANKAYAN
Flemington, 9
Glentaneous beat Dunkel home in their last race, running second, and these two share favouritism here at $5. Happy to stay in our lad’s corner.
Mankayan has run three second from four runs this prep, very honest, drops in grade, hard to see him missing the frame at $7.
BET: Both 5 units ew, exotics
HE’S OUR BONNEVAL
Flemington, 10
First two runs this prep were good, just didn’t finish off last time here a month ago. Fav looks hard to beat in this second-up, HOB at $11.
BET: 3 units ew
ROOTS
Rosehill, 6
Wide open betting race this one… Roots headed west to the G1 Railway at Ascot, but ran down the track after winning well here two weeks previously. 2:2 at this distance, does tend to get back a touch, so they’ll need to be on that today, and likes the soft going. Collett a good booking for Waller, value at $17…
BET: 3 units ew
COIN TOSS, RUSTIC STEEL
Rosehill, 9
CT is a former Singapore horse and ran away from them 20 days ago at Canberra, suggesting he’s right in this at $8 second fav. Fav will be hard to get past, but CT provides the value.
RS was a shock winner for us 22 days ago, winning the G3 Newcastle Stakes there at $12, slipping away and never looked like being caught. $13 on offer, has won twice second up, good EW bet at $13.
BET: CT 5 units ew, RS 3 units ew, exotics including the fav.
GRINGOTTS
Rosehill, 10
Former Kiwi resuming from a 140 day break, placed 2 from 2 first up and loves this distance and going. Gets JMac up top, $3.30 fav in a big field but can cope after electing to run here. Waller know what he’s doing…
BET: 10 unit win
TIMEONLEES
Warracknabeal, 3
OK, insider tip via the owner this one… Very well thought-of filly by McEvoy and ran third on resuming in Feb and has been well-supported both runs. Top four are tight in betting, $4.60 on offer.
BET: 5 units ew
RULE OF TIME
Warracknabeal, 4
Cruised home to win her maiden in Sept before a nice second then two ninths. Spelled for 156 days, resumes under Meech here, may need the run at $8 in this small field.
BET: 5 unit win
EFFORTKAT
Oakbank, 9
Two wins and two fourths in her past four runs, might get found out at this grade, will need to be closer over the shorter race, $34 on offer.
BET: 2 units ew
MORE SNITZEL
Clare, 7
Back in grade but needs to improve to feature, $23 shot.
BET: 2 units ew
CHARLIE’S TIN
Kerang, 7
Been going round at big odds, needs to improve, $7.50 in small field,
BET: 4 unit win
FANTASY EAGLE
Alice Springs, 7
Solid T&Ds, but most do, consistent but needs to pick up if he’s to win this, $18 on offer.
BET: 2 units ew
SALOON BAR
Ascot, 4
A good thing beaten when trapped here in Nov, came out and won next race. Had him as a $17 sleeper on resuming at Albany 20 days ago, and he ran a very decent fourth. Down in grade, good T&Ds, $17 super value!
BET: 4 units ew
BLAZING TYCOON
Ascot, 9
Will get back and offer something late, just not sure it’ll be enough… $71 shot…
BET: 2 units ew
