A third…
Just a third yesterday from our raft of roughies, with Gorush Lightning paying a nice $5.50…
Unsurprisingly, Hawera already abandoned due to the weather, but plenty more meetings to punt on, with 23 from the book today…
A big 23 from the book…
Ascension
Ruakaka R3
1:31pm
Noted when resuming in late May 1200m with a huge finish from the back, then moved up to 1400m a month ago for a fourth, should be peaking and can win this, $3.30 second fav.
BET: 8 unit win
Illyivy
Caulfield R3
3:10pm
Looks like a race in four with our girl right in the mix, easy EW bet at $4.80.
BET: 5 units ew
He’ll Rip
Caulfield R6
5:00pm
He certainly will, two good runs this prep, a win and a second to Cafe Millenium three weeks ago, that’s a good formline and with Benny Allen back onboard and back in grade, he’s a great EW punt at $13.
BET: 5 units ew
The Open
Caulfield R7
5:40pm
Racing well without winning and is $5 fav in a very open race but needs to start paying us back…
BET: 5 units ew
Recommendation
Caulfield R8
6:15pm
Dangerous if he finds his best form, loves the soft (4:3-1-0) and won this last year, $8 shot.
BET: 4 units ew
In Summer, Shutter, Great Point
Randwick R2
1:45pm
In Summer sits as $2.80 here and will be fitter second-up, only missed the top two once in seven runs and ticks a lot of boxes.
Shutter’s got a wicked finish in her and the rise back up to the mile will suit here, though this is a bit tougher. Will also appreciate the soft going and JVO sticks up top, $21 on offer, keep safe and watch late!
GP resumed with two fifths, he showed massive acceleration to score at Scone in December but failed to fire when seemingly suited up to the mile at Randwick in a tougher Highway race. Returned in late Jan and flew home to seemingly to win only to get nicked on the line, then ran a sixth same T&D. Fitter after two fifths five weeks ago as the apprentice produced a brilliant steer to win by a nostril in mid-June before struggling here last time out. Another with a good late burst, $41 on offer.
BET: In Summer 8 unit win, Shutter 5 units ew, GP 3 units ew, exotics all day…
Federer
Randwick R5
3:30pm
Fitter third-up and ready to win, can reverse placings with some of these as $2.60 fav.
BET: 10 unit win
Puntin, King Ratel
Randwick R8
5:20pm
Puntin scored a gritty win second-up at Rosehill two weeks ago and can go on with it here, ticks plenty of boxes at $4.
KR better second-up but will need a bit more, $20 on offer.
BET: Puntin 10 unit win, King Ratel 3 units ew, exotics
Getafix
Randwick R9
6:00pm.
We were very keen on the chances of Getafix three weeks back, having previously run in G1, G2 and G3 company, and the drop back to BM72 grade was a real indicator that he was worth following. Backed into $3 fav, we were looking to JMac to settle him closer in the run, and that’s exactly what he did, perched on the fence in fourth before sprinting home impressively to win with a leg in the air after being heavily supported into $3. Up to 1400m is fine, massive chance again.
BET: 8 unit win
Changing Colours, Captain Amelia, Very Sewreel
Randwick R10
6:35pm
CC won nicely last time out after a string of placings and will be hard to stop here as $2.80 fav.
CA ran fifth in that race, EW in this at $8.50.
VS resuming and likely to need this, $13 shot.
BET: CC 10 unit win, CA 3 units ew, VS 2 units ew, exotics
Merchant Flyer
Doomben R4
3:38pm
Better second-up with a close second, and while the fav looks tough to beat here he can feature at $6.50.
BET: 4 units ew
Lady Shotgun
Doomben R6
4:52pm
Very consistent mare, her win in December was amazing and had been very consistent prior, though latest form is a bit misleading, she can feature here at $9.

Newcastle R7
5:45pm
Consistent without winning, good T & D stats, go close today at $6.

Araletta
Gold Coast R5
5:49pm
Spotted her after a trial at Pak in April last year, with trainer Peter Moody spruiking her up, suggesting she was gonna break maidens soon, rating her as a city class filly. She ran second, if a touch greenly, but we fancied more to come, and she resumed in December spell after some good jump-outs, and she duly obliged with a dominant display. Backed that up on NY Day, swooping late to win for us. Finished well for third later in the month then ran a very close seventh up in the BM70 grade in early Feb before heading to the paddock. Resumed from a 140 daybreak three weeks ago but faded late. That will have done the world of good and she can bounce back and win this as $4.20 second-fav.
BET: 8 unit win
Layeruponlayer
Murray Bridge R9
7:03pm
Former HK sprinter noted with a superb win on NY Day this year, and we expected he’d push on but didn’t threaten, though wasn’t far away. Resumed from a 105 day spell in May with an eighth but then won a trial and then ran a close eighth. Needs to lift but worth an EW shot at $9.
BET: 3 units ew
Boldinho
Darwin R3
5:24pm
Returning from a four month break and has won first-up. Goes well in firmer ground, can win as $3.90 fav.
BET: 6 unit win
Famous Dain
Bunbury R3
6:04pm
A touch inconsistent but deadly on his day, has won at this distance, EW at $5.50, watch late…
