Our faith in the improving Frankel Star (5 units ew) was justified as he romped in over the longer distance, paying $6.40/$1.60.
Mingora couldn’t quite edge out the fav in a blanket finish under Pikey, but we did tip the quinella (10 units), paying $2.70.
And Upper House drifted out in betting to run third at $1.80.

REAL GUN

We’ve been following him faithfully this prep, during which he’d rewarded us with three placings at $26, $61 and $9. Especially keen on him 13 days ago at Kilmore back in the BM58 grade, and he duly saluted, backed in to $3 fav and leading from the front for a gritty win. Back as the $2.90 fav in this, drawn nicely, no reason he can’t repeat… has the calibre to win…

GHOST DOCTOR, WINCHESTER RIFLE
Benalla, 8
Easiest race GD has contested for some time, but does tend to space out his wins… Expect him to finish much closer today, $18 shot. Speaking of calibre, Winchester Rifle gunned ‘em down two in a row in July, showing above average talent, and has only missed once in three subsequent runs. Gets to his fav distance now, plus the service of Zac Spain signal some intent here, and he’s on our radar as a viable EW shot at $21.

The drop in grade worked last race, running third for us at $8.50. Booking of A Bullock up top shows intent, he’s here to win this as $3.90 fav.

Came with a well-timed run at Narromine 9 days ago under C Gallagher, who sticks today, winning for us at $4.50. $3.30 in a three-way go for favouritism here, the rise to 1400m should work in his favour…

Resumes after a 10 month break and was going well last prep before heading to the paddock. Might be a touch short for her with no trial under her belt, but does get the going she prefers, $31 on offer…
