A long-awaited winner…

An early abandonment at Stawell left us with six from the book yesterday, producing a first and two thirds, with Social Conscience breaking a long drought winning as $1.80 fav, Fire running third at $1.50 and a fast-finish from Shutter for third at $3.10 the place.

He was as green as you like here two days ago, reefing and pulling, but he flew home late earning a next-time tag. Would have thought they’d push him out a bit distance-wise but drops to the 1200m, but he’ll be better for the experience and expect he’ll go close today, $3.80 fav at the moment.

Resumes from a three month spell and she was tracking along well until stepping up to the BM75 in Jan. Has placed first-up, jockey is 5:2-1 and has won on heavy. $9 in an open betting race, worth an EW bet.

Drops to the BM64 after running a close fourth in the G3 Manawatu 23 days ago and in a G2 before that. His debut win was here and he looks a shoo-in in this as $1.70 fav.

Very consistent, resumes from a 163 day spell and has won twice first-up. He’s 6:2-1 at the distance and likes the firmer going, expect he’ll go well and Schiller is a positive booking up top. $10 on offer.
