A promising next-timer…

Just a second yesterday as Infringement (5 units ew), went head to head with the hot fav, but was gallant in defeat, a great effort after almost 6  months in the paddock and his first run in Aus. Definitely a next-timer…

Eleven from the book for Easter Monday, including the promised two insider tips, let’s dive in!!

Eleven for Easter Monday…

FREE SPIRIT

Otaki, 7

She returns from a 6 month break after finishing last prep with a couple of runs down the track, however, her previous form had been superb through the middle of last year, with three wins and a second from four runs, one of them at $17 for us. Has won and placed first up, she’s 11:2-3 here, though no form at this shorter distance. Down in grade and likes it wet, though this could be a tune-up as the $23 suggests, but she does have talent so worth an EW punt at that.

RETURN WITH HONOUR

Riverton, 4

Returned from Aussie in Jan last year and boomed home for a win second up. Subsequent runs nowhere near that level, and we assumed he’d need the resuming run at Gore 22 days ago, and so it proved… Has done nothing on wet ground in eight runs, $11 outsider in this small field, interest only…

LA OPCION

Riverton, 9

Did little under Tina 2 days ago here, maybe a bit too heavy, but goes round again and Tina sticks. Back to the 1400m but will need to buck her ideas up to feature, $23 on offer.

IMMORTELLE

Sandown, 1

The first of our “insider” tips, mate of mine owns a leg and trainer says she’s moving well, though her prep for her first race has been hampered, so this is essentially a look-see on how she’s progressed. Scratched from Mornington yesterday because of the barrier draw. $13 on offer, EW the way to go…

SETTEVELI

Warwick Farm, 4

The is the other insider, and he won for us on debut and also at Mornington last May. Had a gland issue which has been resolved and he’s back in fine order. Moved from Moroney to Snowdens, ran two nice thirds in trials recently and possesses and great turn of foot, watch for him late, they rate him a real chance to win. In from $10 to $5.50.

UNFLINCHING

Warwick Farm, 6

He’s won plenty of times for us, and resumed from a 132 day break 24 days ago at the Valley. We thought he’d need the run but did tremendously well, just failing to overhaul the fav in the 955m dash. Absolute on-pacer, 13:6-4 at this distance, stats are great, $4.20 co-fav in an open betting race, but we’ll be all over him at that price!

HAYAI MESU

Oakbank, 6

Just the one win to show for her 15 runs but a couple of seconds this prep keeps her well in this. Placed 4 from 4 at this distance, varies her racing pattern, and she’s $7 in a wide-open betting race here.

LITTLE RICH BOY

Oakbank, 7

Seven year old veteran of 73 races but still pops up now and again for us. Back in grade, generally on-pace, Holder sticks and he;’s an EW shot at $5.50 in another open betting race.

ALF’S MAGIC

Grafton, 8

Thought he was a $14 sleeper 21 days ago at Coffs thanks to his previous second, but he faded to eighth on the heavy. The firmer track today should suit, he’s a $6.50 shot in this, EW claims.

DESERT PETARD

York, 4

Mixing his runs a bit, sandwiching a win between two tenth placings in his last three. Down in grade but his wins have been closer to the mile, so he’ll need to be ridden with little more restraint, but present as $3.50 fav in yet another open race.

BET: 6 unit win

ALTERNO

York, 8

No wins in her past twenty runs, drops in grade for this, perennial backmarker who’ll also need to be closer in the run to feature in the finish. $15 on offer…
