Winner and two (very) close seconds…
Bit hit and miss yesterday, but we came up with a first and two seconds…
We looked a little unlucky with Millefiore, well-fancied after her previous good finish for third, but she got blocked at a critical moment in the run-in to finish midfield.
Brancaster Bomber put in a super effort, only to get run down by the $20 shot, paying $2.80 the place.
Ditto for Catalina Dreaming, she timed her run beautifully but not quite as well as the $11 shot did, getting nicked by a long neck right on the line, paying $1.30 the place after being well-supported in the betting in to favourite. Next time for sure…
And we had to wait till the get-out at Townsville for Bringyaticket to provide the day’s winner, reproducing his finish from two back. We had the stats right, and he delivered at $4.30/$1.80…
Again we have ten from the book on a busy TGIF, with some big odds tips (of course!), let’s have a look!
TGIF Ten
ZEEFA ZED
Wanganui, 5
Resumes after 6 months in the paddock, has never won or placed on anything other than heavy, or at this track, so this will be a tune-up for him today at $21.
BET: 2 units ew
TIKEMYSON
Wanganui, 9
Resumes from a 3 month spell. Noted winding up well on debut but not approached that form since, but suspect there’s a bit more to him than that. Back to the shorter distance today, but he’ll need to get closer earlier in order to unleash late. $12 on offer.

ROYAL FOX
Benalla, 6
A nice second from Royal Fox 15 days ago at Bendigo, last all the way but unleashed his signature big finish to run a couple of lengths from the hotpot fav with the rest well beaten, paying $2.70 the place. He’s progressing towards another win, could do with getting him out over a bit more ground, Billy jumps back on, so watch for him late in what looks like a race in two with the other fav. $3.60 on offer, he can do it…
BET: 8 unit win, 10 unit quinella with Villasaurus
BULLET WING
Benalla, 7
Finding it hard to digest his last two runs, seemingly well-placed at the distances for an on-pacer, but has led and faded both times. Back in grade a touch and back from city racing, he’ll lead again, so prepared to rate him another EW shot as $5.50 second fav.
BET: 4 units ew
CAPITAL GIRL
Rockhampton, 3
Definitely trying our patience this time in, got spanked at the picnics 13 days ago, $41 outsider here in a small field…
BET: 2 unit win
KOOL BIRD
Sapphire Coast, 1
Didn’t show much on resumption 12 days ago but OK place stats at this grade, distance, track and jockey, $10 in a small field.
BET: 4 unit win
KATTEGAT
Sapphire Coast, 2
On-pacer who’s tried to lead out in his last three, landing a second and a third in the first two but fading badly 16 days ago at Canberra. This is his distance though and jockey is 6:0-5 up top, chance if he can spring away from the ace draw, small field again, $8.50 on offer.
BET: 5 unit win
GENJIRO
Sapphire Coast, 7
The finish two back had him on our radar, but his next at the same T&D was plain. Back to the mile, he’s another who needs to be closer in order to feature, but it’s a very open betting event, $19 on offer, worth an EW punt…

DRIFT NET
Cranbourne, 3
Promising, lightly-raced filly who resumed from a 4 month spell 29 days ago with a solid run under Coffey and goes round again today with C Gaudray up top. Earned a next-time badge after that run, she’ll be close to the pace, and I think she just wins this, $2 fav.
BET: 10 unit win
MAKBEEL
Cranbourne, 6
Bounced back on resuming at Colac a month ago, getting up for us at $19. Jumped in grade and distance 20 days ago at Morks, and while prominent for a long way, he weakened late to run seventh. Back in grade and distance today, gets Stackhouse up top, they’ll ride him a little more conservatively and produce him late, $15 on offer.
