Ups and downs…

“Both ends of the evolutionary scale” yesterday, to quote Basil Fawlty…

One the one hand we have Free Spirit, who’d not shown any form in recent times, sat just off the pace and powered home for a nice win at $9.40 for us.

On the other hand, we have two very much fancied favourites in Lurch and Mr Vivaci, both settled at the rear of the field and flew home for fourth and second respectively when it was too late… Ah, the vagaries of the punt…

Just the two on TGIF, a $6 shot and a $61 shot, so a small top four multi?

The veteran gelding runs his 100th career race here, he resumed from a break 13 days ago, thought he’d need the run and that the 1000m was a bit short, but he did OK, not too far away in fourth. Up to the 1175m will suit a bit better, and he has form at the track (6:2-0-1) and also on heavy (18:6-1-4), and though up in grade he could be the sleeper in this at $61…

The win two back was gained via his usual late finish but couldn’t repeat that at Geelong three weeks later. Good record this track (3:1-1-0) and though also up in grade today can feature in this at $6.
