Hmmm…
Disappointed in the ride on More Than Words at Riccy yesterday, flew home for second when at was too late after giving the leaders far too much of a head start… Will be looking for a better ride next time…
Eight from the book today, but before we get into them, the inside tip we had a couple of weeks ago in Setteveli (won at $14 if you got on early) is going again tomorrow at Flemington, currently paying $13. Up in grade and back to 1100m down the straight, but the way he won last time suggests he’ll go well again, and connections are confident again. Get on early!
TGIF eight!
FREE SPIRIT
Awapuni, 6
Rank outsider at $15 in this, one for odds I guess…

SEA MONARCH
Awapuni , 8
He’s an $18 shot here, hasn’t shown much this prep, and another EW shot…

JALMARI
Goulburn, 1
Back from city racing and down in grade, but he’s no shoo-in here as $3 fav. Raging backmarker you’ll assume will be finishing on late, but his form on good (8:0-0) isn’t very encouraging. Be wary.
BET: 5 unit win
COOL LAD
Goulburn, 8
Three close-up runs this prep will saw him strip fitter for his last run where he came from the back to run a close second here just 11 days ago. Watch for him late again as they’ve made him $2.30 fav after some key scratchings…
BET: 8 unit win
MOUNT STEWART
Geelong, 5
Former Irish galloper noted in his first run in Aus in Aug 21, coming for the back to win nicely after being well-supported in a BM78. Then ran down the track in a hurdle event before heading for the paddock for 21 months, and trialled a month ago ahead of his return today. Back to BM64 grade, and we’re taking a guess that he’s ready for this, but how fit he is we don’t know. 2 from 2 first up, I’d keep him safe at $10…

OENOLOGY, WANJIRU
Geelong, 9
We were pretty bullish about Oenology’s chances last time out under Yendall, but he jumped out at the back and didn’t really threaten, running a pretty tame sixth. Same T&D today, but Yendall, who’s ridden him last three times, jumps onto another mount, and Rawiller hops on here. Keep him safe at $4. We suggested serial backmarker Wanjiru might find the rise to the mile an advantage, and he certainly did, flying home from the back to claim second at SP $17. Up in grade and up again in distance, $26 looks juicy, include him!

SACRED KIWI
Tatura, 7
We thought maybe he’d turned the corner two runs back with a second at SP $41 at Werribee, but then he runs next to last under the same conditions next time out at Seymour. Down in grade but hard to follow, the $6 on offer does not appeal…
