Just the two in the same race yesterday at Ellerslie, and our prime choice First Dance dropped out early and couldn’t find much on the run in, whereas Aquilifer gave a good sight, running second to the strong fav, paying $1.65 the place.

This is an interesting runner, spotted her after a trial at Pak in April, with trainer Peter Moody spruiking her up, suggesting she was gonna break maidens soon, rating her as a city class filly. She ran second, if a touch greenly, but we fancied more to come, and she resumes today from a 236 day spell after some good jump-outs. Definite chance in this field, $2.60 fav.

Resumed in August with a third then a second at Eagle Farm, and only got caught late in October here, then ran fifth here five weeks ago. Frontrunner back to the 1000m, real chance to break maiden status as $5 second fav.

Has had an intermittent career to date and flew home for a very encouraging third on resuming, then ran a close sixth on the Sunny Coast 26 days ago. Gets back but has a finish, so we thought the push out to 1350m would suit, but she did little in the run. Happy to give her another chance in this, $12 on offer…

Very dominant when winning on debut in Sept last year but has had a couple of breaks in between times and resumed 12 days ago this T&D after 284 days, and had trialled for second in late November. Really fancied him to figure under Pikey but he barely emerged from the rear. No Pike today but Chris Parnham is an able deputy, go again at $6.50.
